Roman, Patton, and Logan all decided not to attend english there was too much going on right now, and Roman wanted to talk to Virgil.
Immediately.

“Roman wait up!” Patton called as Logan and he chased after the fast moving Roman. He ignored them and kept going.

Finally, he spotted a black form spread out in the middle of the football field.

Virgil was laying peacefully with his eyes closed as he soaked up the sun's rays. It wasn’t warm considering it was winter, but Virgil didn’t feel cold at all. He felt comfortable, and finally able to relax for the first time all day.

“Hey!”

Virgil jumped and darted into a sitting up position.

Five minutes! Is that too much to ask? Virgil wanted to go five minutes without being bothered.

Virgil grumbled, but it came out more as a growl.

“What?” He spat in the direction he heard the voice. He saw that it was the very good looking guy running up to him with Patton and Logan trailing a ways behind him. He groaned and flopped to the ground. Maybe if he pretended to be dead they would leave him alone.

“Hey,” Roman said closer now probably standing next to Virgil. Virgil kept his eyes closed and pretended that he didn’t hear him. “Why did you leave?” He heard the guy ask.
“Roman you can’t run that fast people will ask questions.” Virgil heard two more people run up and recognized the one who spoke as Logan. So this guy bugging him name’s Roman.

Virgil continued to keep his eyes closed and ignored their conversation tuning them out. Maybe they’ll get bored and leave.

“Oh, you worry too much Glasses.” Roman said waving off Logan’s complaints.

“You are acting irrationally.” Logan shot back.

“Guys maybe we should focus on more pressing issues.” Patton said pulling the two out of the inevitable bickering match that was sure to ensue and gesturing to the emo at their feet. “Hey Virgil.” Patton said gently. Virgil flinched ever so slightly at the mention of his name but ultimately remained laying down with his arm draped over his eye. “Kiddo come on.” Patton tried to coaxs but still no reaction. Giving up on his fatherly approach he decided on the annoying child. “Hey, hey Virgil hey, hey Virgil. Virgil come on Virgil. Hey, hey Virgil. Did you die Virgil? Huh? Huh?” Patton said kneeling down and poking him obnoxiously. Roman tensed watching Patton poke his mate. An immense sense of jealousy flowing through him. Well that was new.

“Hey, Hey Virgil. He-”

“For the love of God would you stop that!” Virgil growled sitting up quickly almost smacking him and Patton’s heads together.

“Ahh! He is alive!”  Patton said happily clapping his hands together.

“No shit sherlock! Ever think I was ignoring you for a reason? Like I don’t know I want to be left alone!” Virgil shouted as he stood up huffed and tried to walk away. Upon seeing Virgil try to leave Roman panicked. He grabbed onto Virgil arms scaring the retreating teen. Virgil yelped in surprise feeling sparks fly through his arm. He quickly yanked his arm away with a lot of force. “Why can’t you just leave me alone!?” Virgil screamed. “This day has been nothing but a living hell from the start. First I get bombarded by the glasses guys and now Mr. Jock is joining the dynamic duo. What is it torment the new kid day!? Well I hope you had your fun! Cause I am done this whole day has ruined me for going to school. I’ll just be a high school drop out. I can live with that!” Virgil said his thoughts becoming jumbled from his frustration not thinking out anything he said before he said it. His whole body felt like it was buzzing with energy from his rage. He was so done with all of this. He could feel the hot tears start to pool in his eyes.

“We promise we aren’t trying to upset you.” Roman said feeling very guilty seeing the poor guy so upset.

“Oh, well that changes everything doesn’t. My apologies, I didn’t realize you weren’t ‘trying to upset’ me! I have clearly made a terrible mistake and misjudged you all!” Virgil spat sarcastically.  Roman visibly flinched at the venom in the others voice.

“Virgil please,

Virgil… I’m sorry.” Roman said breathlessly.

Virgil froze. Why did those words hurt so much. The world seemed to slow down as those words echoed in his head slowly warping into someone else's voice. Kyle. Those exact words were the last he ever heard him say before he ran.

Before…

Virgil could feel his tears finally come over flow as they fell silently. The others could see him start shaking like the earth itself was vibrating. However, they became increasingly more concerned when they saw something else.

Virgil’s eyes were glowing purple along with the orb on his necklace.

“Virgil kiddo, what’s wrong?” Patton asked trying to find a way to calm him down.

Virgil didn’t seem to hear him. Instead mumbling mostly incoherently under his breath. “My fault… all my fault… shouldn’t have… my fault… called…” Virgil sunk to the ground grabbing at his hair pulling it into all sorts of directions. His breathing became strained as he started to sob. His eyes only continued to glow brighter His pupils morphing into a more animalistic style. The others need to do something and quick.

“This is not good!” Logan said very concerned. His brain was running a mile a minute trying to figure out how to deal with the consequences of this situation if the others were unable to calm Virgil.

“Virgil look at me!” Roman said in his authoritative voice. Scared eyes immediately met Roman’s. Roman could feel his heart break seeing his mate in such a state. “I need you to calm down.” Roman said in the same authoritative voice. Virgil whimpered and ducked his head submissively out of pure instinct. His own thoughts not really present at the moment “Hey, no its okay you don’t need to be scared.” Roman said seeing what Virgil was doing.

Suddenly, Virgil felt a sharp pain shooting through his body down his spine. He cried out in pain as his body tensed against the pain.

“Shit” Roman said as he heard Virgil cry out. He might be too late, but he wasn’t gonna give up. Giving up on the tactic of talking to him, Roman just wrapped his arms around the shaking boy. The reaction from Virgil was immediate. Tiny sparks erupted through his body, but they were so comforting. His mind finally just stopped and gave him a moment of peace where his thoughts were just blank.

The others let out a sigh as they watched Virgil’s eyes revert back to their normal chocolate brown and his body relax.

“Can you hear me now?” Roman whispered to him. Virgil nodded slightly. “Are you okay?”

Virgil gave a humorless laugh, “I’m never gonna be alright. No matter how much I wish I could change it,”   Virgil felt his eyelids push down heavily. He feebly tried to fight against them, but he was definitely losing. “I’m really tired.” He mumbled groggily.

“Try to keep him awake, him passing out would not be ideal.”  Logan stated to Roman.

Roman nodded. “Hey, Virgil?”

“Hmm...” Virgil said lazily.

“Try and stay awake for me. Can you do that?”

“Why?” Virgil questioned. “ ‘m so tired… and ‘m comfortable... Can I just go to sleep?” Virgil asked drunk with exhaustion.

“No, you need to stay awake.”  Roman said shaking Virgil and trying to shift so Virgil wouldn’t be as comfortable. It didn’t work. Virgil just burrowed himself deeper into Roman.

“M’kay fine. ’m just gonna close my eyes for a second.” He said as he gave up the fight with his eyelids within seconds of closing his eyes he was out slipping into unconsciousness.

Roman attempted shaking him back into the waking world, but was unsuccessful.

“Well this is unideal.” Logan stated.

“Ya, think!”
