Roman was met half way back to the pack house by Patton and Logan. They had gotten worried about how late it was and mind linked Roman. Roman was exhausted and told them where to meet him. They quickly came to his side. Patton went to take Virgil from Roman's arms only for Roman to pull back and growl.
"Roman, you're hurt. You can't heal if you make it worse holding him." Patton said gently. "You can trust mel"
Roman seemed hesitant but his arm felt like it was going to fall off. He knew Patton was right. He gently moved Virgil into Patton's arms. As soon as the responsibility of holding himself up to support Virgil was gone his legs buckled beneath him. Logan was by his side supporting his weight.
"What happened?" Patton asked.
"I think I lost a bit too much blood." Roman said groggily. That rogue must have torn him up more than he had thought. His first concern had just been Virgil. He normally would have healed by now, but shifting and moving Virgil around during that walk and kept reopening it.
"No kiddo, how did you get hurt?"
"Oh that, a rogue attacked me." Roman explained, having a hard time staying conscious himself.
"What happened to Virgil?" Logan inquired.
"He killed the rogue, he lost control, and could stop. I think all the stress was too much." Roman explained the best he could.
They then walked the rest of the way to the pack house, Patton carrying Virgil a Logan practically dragging Roman as he feebly tried to stumble along.
By the time they got back Roman's wound had started healing at a normal rate for a werewolf and was almost done, but he was still tired from not having enough blood in his body. As soon as he got in he collapsed on the sofa. Knowing he had to leave a spot on the couch for Virgil. He told the other's not to let Virgil go anywhere far from him. If Virgil was the one to wake up first.
With that Roman was out like a light.
"Ever since Virgil showed up everything sure has been hectic hasn't Logie?" Patton said a tired smile on his face as he looked up at Logan.
"Indeed it has." Logan agreed.
Patton made grabby hands at Logan who rolled his eyes before moving in to embrace his mate. They stayed like that for a few minutes before a gasp was heard from the doorway. Standing there was Molly.
"No, no you guys keep hugging it was adorable." Molly said smiling, but it was fake and didn't reach her eyes. She did mean it though the two were adorable as mates. She moved over to Virgil and pulled his necklace out from being tucked in his shirt. Her fake smile turned into a frown. "I thought something was wrong," she mumbled to herself. As she looked at the necklace that's gem was currently black, but seemed to be heading back to purple.
"What happened?" She said directing the question to the other's but not taking her eyes off of the stone.
"They were attacked by a rogue, and Virgil killed the rogue because he lost control. He freaked and passed out." Patton relayed the information that Roman had given him.
She sighed in what seemed to almost be relief, "So he probably hyperventilated and then passed out?"
"That can be assumed." Logan confirmed. He was starting to feel suspicious of Molly's odd behavior. However, it could be attributed that she thought his current condition was somehow worse than simple unconsciousness.
"Poor Virgil, he probably feels so guilty, I hope he can realize he didn't do anything that bad." Molly said sadly.
"Yeah..." Patton agreed.
Virgil suddenly started fussing in his sleep. Molly's face looked concerned. She went over to him and tried to put a soothing hand to Virgil's head.
_________Virgil was running.
He ran faster and faster.
He couldn't breath.
He didn't know where he was going or what he was running from. He just had to keep running. Then he heard screaming.
Roman!
He ran towards the screaming, when he arrived he himself let out a blood curdling scream. There laying before him was Roman, his eyes, his beautiful amber eyes, were dull and lifeless. His body sprawled on the ground. He throat ripped out and still spurting blood. Virgil collapsed to his knees as he screamed in horror. Tears flooding down his face.
"NO!!" He screamed.
A low growl came from the nearby darkness created by the trees. Purple eyes peering out at him. Virgil watched in horror as his wolf walked out blood dripping from his pearly white fangs.
It didn't take long to connect the pieces of the scene before him.
"No!" Virgil sobbed, "I wouldn't... I couldn't hurt him. No! NO! He was so kind. He was patient with me even though I'm a mess. He only snapped at me once. He was good. Why is it the good people that get hurt?" Virgil sobbed. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry I'm so sorry."
Virgil broke down as the world turned black the darkness suffocating him. He curled in on himself as he floated through the void.
"Sorry... I'm sorry... Sorry.... I'm so sorry" Virgil repeated to himself. Over and over his mind. The world growing colder. To the point that his breath could be seen. The tears sliding down his cheeks freezing.
__________
"Hey Molly?" Patton asked concern starting to lace his voice.
"Hmm?" Molly responded as she tried to sooth Virgil while cradling Virgil's head in her lap. He had finally seemed to settle.
"Well you seem to know something about Virgil's necklace..." Molly looked up at Patton not sure where he was going with that. "What does it mean when the stone turns white?" Molly's eyes shot wide. She reached for the necklace but she had to pull away It felt like she had just touched mettle at -40 degrees fahrenheit.
She shook her head. She placed her other hand on Virgil's head and he felt like ice. "I- I don't know." She said panicking. She started shaking Virgil.
"Virgil! Wake up! Wake up right now!" She said thrashing his shoulders.
"Um, perhaps that's not the best option." Molly shot Logan a look that quickly shut him up.
"Virgil, you need to wake up!" She said, before slamming his body onto the couch.
Finally, Virgil shot up, he woke up screaming. Tears spilling from his eyes.
The scream startled Roman awake, who ungraceful fell from the recliner he was asleep on.
"Roman! Where's Roman?" Virgil called desperately.
"I need him! Please! Where is he?" Virgil sobbed.
Roman didn't know what was going on, but Virgil needed him. He quickly engulfed Virgil in his arms. "Hey it's okay, I'm here. I'm here." He said petting the back of Virgil's head.
Virgil choked on his sobbes.
"I'm so sorry."
