Virgil watched as Hunter’s corpse was pulled from the room, so the other’s could do whatever they wanted to enact their revenge. Virgil looked back down at Molly. Her face was so peaceful if he didn’t know better he would have thought she was just sleeping.
But he knew better.
He looked at the wretched bar sticking out of her and growled. Even now her flesh was reacting to the cursed metal, causing a sizzling sound to fill the room. Virgil couldn’t stand it. He reached down and pulled it from her body. Throwing it away. He placed his hand over the hole it had left in it place. His skin being stained red. She was still warm. He pulled her closer to him and cried.
A few minutes later the other’s returned their muzzles stained red, but the anger in their eyes was gone. Now all that was left was sadness. Zalea buried her head into Ash’s furr so she didn’t have to see. Ash stood stock still and mournful. Xel slowly approached Virgil, they weren’t sure what kind of state he would be in and didn’t want to anger him. Virgil didn’t move. He let Xel approach. They nuzzled Molly’s face with their nose, and gave her a gentle lick. They whimpered sadly before pulling away. They sat down next to Virgil and gave him a sad look. Then they tilted their head back, a sad pain filled howl coming from deep within them filled the near silent room. Zaylea walked over and sat next to Xel her mournful howl matching in perfect harmony with Xel’s. Ash also joined in soon after.
Virgil’s heart clenched.
It had happened again. He lost someone he cared about again. It was his fault again. Pulses of energy kept bursting from him destroying everything in the room. Except the others not even a speck of debris hit them. They all continued their sad song.
It was his fault, and this time it truly was.
He had that monster's throat in his hands. He could have killed him. He could have prevented this. This was his fault.
The pulses were coming faster now. It was almost a steady stream of energy at this point. Surrounding him and Molly in a lavender glow. Then a warm feeling started to accumulate in Virgil's chest. It was similar to when Molly had been freaking out and he had that panic attack, but it was warmer. Stronger. He focussed on the heat. It seemed to consume him. Then he felt it move to his hand that was covering the wound. A sudden large pulse shot from his hand. It was larger even then the violent one that had slammed Hunter against the wall, But it wasn’t violent. It felt safe. Molly glowed a purple violet color before returning back to normal.
Virgil felt hope swell within him. He didn’t know what he had just done, but he was sure it had to mean something. He looked at the others who were staring at him in confusion, not understanding what had just transpired.
He pulled his hand away. The hole left from the pipe was still there. He looked at Molly’s face to see it still dull and lifeless.
Nothing.
Nothing had happened.
“I’m sorry, I thought maybe…” What was the point of having these damn powers if he couldn’t do something useful with them.
All Virgil had managed to do was make himself feel drained and useless. In fact he felt light headed. He swayed a bit before he too collapsed. With his last bit of energy he wrapped his arms around Molly and let a few more tears fall before his world went dark.

After traveling for so long Roman could finally feel them getting close. He could feel Virgil’s presence like it was just around the corner. The only problem was the swell of different emotions around him. One second he could feel Virgil have a huge swell of confidence, the next anger pure seething rage it was almost terrifying for Roman. Then pain. Just pain. That’s the only way he could describe what he was feeling. It was physical. But it was excruciating. Then rage again then sadness. It was giving him whiplash.
Finally the pack arrived at this building. It was cold and uninviting, but what caught everyone's attention was the thick musty smell of fresh blood that was coating the place. They all shifted into their human forms before they went in. When Roman opened the door to this building. He accidently kicked something. Rather hard too.
Oops.
He looked down and gasped in shock. It was the mutilated body of someone. At least he assumed it was a person considering the shredded clothing around it. But it otherwise looked wrong and not at all human.
“Patton close your eyes.”
“What why?”
“Logan if you know what’s good for your mate you will not let him see this when he comes in. Roman said looking over his shoulder, at a very confused Logan and Patton, but Logan did as he was told and used his hand to cover Patton’s eyes.
Everyone walked in, everyone had varying reactions, except for Patton who was shielded from the horrific scene. As soon as everyone came in they heard it. The long mournful cry of wolves that had just lost a loved one. Everyone paled. Their instinct begging for them to howl with the others. Meaning they all knew the one who died. They all looked to Roman.
Roman shook his head, “I still feel Virgil, he’s alive.”
“Then who?” Cassidy said confused.
All their eyes widened.
“Molly!” They all said in unison.
They ran to where the sound was coming from. Just as they did they could hear Virgil talking. Roman felt a rush of relief at the sound of his voice, but he felt like crying at the pain that filled it.
“I’m sorry, I thought maybe…” Then some slight shuffling could be heard before it went quiet.
They walked into the room and Roman couldn’t help the growl that came from him. Surrounding his mate were three wolves with red stained muzzles and Virgil was covered in blood. He rushed to Virgil to see him clinging tightly to a very pale Molly. As soon as Roman tried to touch either one of them the wolves around the two of them growled and put themselves between Virgil and Roman. Roman growled at them. How dare they get between him and his mate. The trio all shifted quickly but remained in a defensive stance.
“Who are you!?” Xel demanded.
“I’m the one who should be asking you! That’s my mate! And the girl he is the one who took him from me! I have the right to be here!”
Xel paled and looked at Molly in Virgil’s unconscious arms. Tears coming to their eyes. “What are you gonna do? Kill her again.” They spat pain in her voice.
Someone in Roman’s pack whimpered, but it was honestly hard to tell who it was. Roman didn’t stop though, “Why is he unconscious!” He demanded. The others stood firm and growled at him.
“Hell if we know!” Zalea growled.
“He did some glowy shit and passed out.” Ash stated.
“Roman perhaps we should calm down a bit. I’ll admit tensions are high and I know you are worried about him, but it isn’t the first time Virgil has gone unconscious due to strange circumstances.” Logan said trying to calm down his Alpha.
Roman looked at his beta and his shoulder sagged. Logan was right one thing still didn’t add up. “Whose body did I kick in the hall?”
Xel smirked despite their tear stained cheeks, “That’s all that’s left of the bastard that hurt your mate and killed my best friend. This is all his fault.”
Roman’s eyes flashed. “I should have kicked him harder then.”
The trio gave Roman a look of approval before they all stepped aside to let him get to Virgil. He quickly rushed to his side. He looked exhausted even when asleep. He was almost as pale as Molly and that was bad considering…
The smell of death was thicker now that he was next to them. It was almost nauseating. He was surprised Virgil could stand to be that close to it. Roman tried to pull his mate away from her body, but he only clung tighter. Well this was going to be difficult. Then some movement caught Roman’s eye. His eyes widened as his ears became more in tune to the sounds around him. He suddenly heard something he didn’t hear before. Just a few seconds prior he only could pick out one heartbeat from the two on the ground.
But suddenly,
there were two heart beats!
