Virgil gave a Roman a week smile, but couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He hadn’t realized Molly had froze in his arms. Not moving.

“Molly? What’s wrong?” Virgil asked. She had started shaking almost violently.

“We can’t…” Molly whispered into Virgi’s chest still in his arms.

Virgil pulled her away to look at her. “What?” Even though he was pretty sure he had heard what she said.

“We can’t join their pack Virgil.” Molly said her eyes seeming to plead with Virgil What she was asking for he didn’t know.

“Why not?” Roman asked in a bit too demanding of a voice. “Why can’t my mate be a part of my pack?” He said feeling insulted slightly.

She flinched at Roman’s booming voice.

“We are already a part of one…”

The whole room fell into silence. Neither of the boys knew how to respond to that.
"What's the name of the pack?" Roman finally asked.

"Shadow Moon."

"I've never heard of them." Roman said confused as Alpha he had to know all the packs in the area.

Molly gave a broken laugh, "Of course you haven't."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Roman puffed up indignantly.

"I'm done talking about this right now. I'm gonna go to my room." She said trying to go back to the guest room she was staying in.

"MOLLY! STOP!" Roman used his Alpha voice he wanted answers now.

Molly whipped around her eyes flashing bright purple before she stormed up into Roman's face. "You might be surprised to know. That shit doesn't work on me. Try it again and see what happens.” She growled. Roman growled right back.

"Molly…" Virgil spoke for the first time since hearing the fact he was in a pack. Then why had he grown up not knowing what he was? Molly seemed to know all the answers, but she wouldn't tell him. He was so sick and tired of always feeling like he was in the dark about all this.

Molly snapped her attention away from Roman leaving him fuming. “What!?” She spat. Her eyes glowing in frustration and anger, but they softened seeing Virgil. He actually ducked his head at how angry she was. Her eyes widened before she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened them again they had returned to their normal color. She flopped down onto the couch and buried her face in her hands making a frustrated sound. “This isn’t fair! I just learned that someone I cared about is gone! And now you expect me to talk about that wretched place! It isn’t fair!”

“What isn’t fair, is you not telling Virgil! I am sure he is lost and confused and you have the answers, but you won’t tell him! Don’t you care about him at all?” Roman was still pissed and he wasn’t going to just drop it.

Molly pulled her head from her hands and met Roman’s eyes. “I’m just trying to keep him safe in the only way I know how! They didn’t exactly give me a manual at the age of six on how to do this job!” Her eyes widened when she realized what she had just said. “Shit…”

She looked at Virgil whose face had grown more perplexed by the minute. “Don’t” she warned her eyes flashing purple again.

“Molly…” Virgil started. So many emotions flashed in his eyes but hurt was the most prevalent.

“I said don’t.” Molly said again. She could feel her pulse rising. She could hear the sound of her blood pulsing in her ears. Her body was shaking and she was biting down hard on her tongue a metallic taste blossoming in her mouth.

“You were told to watch over me weren’t you? Does that mean… Does that mean this has all been an act? Something you had to do as a job! Did you even really care!? I bet that’s why you disappeared. You got tired of having to look after such and ignorant fool, so you left. I bet you quit.” Virgil spat with venom. Not thinking clearly.

Molly gaped at him. That wasn’t what she thought he was going to say when she was telling him ‘don’t’. “You really believe that? That’s where you went with that information?”

“I don’t know what to believe!” Virgil said backing up into Roman seeking comfort from his mate.

Pure furrey coursed through Molly’s veins. “You think so little of me… you think I would… That I could…” She was so upset she couldn’t speak. “Virgil I didn’t choose to leave!” Her hand started to twitch. “I was taken! I was taken by a monster! And do know why! I was protecting you God Damn it!” No one in the room noticed that her hand had started smoking. “I went with him willingly to protect you!”

“Why?” Virgil asked.

“Because that asshole was after you!” She threw her arms up before slamming them down and from her hands flew purple flames that ignited the couch.

Virgil jumped back and Roman let out an unmanly yelp. Molly looked to see the couch engulfed with flames. And let out a slew of curse words. She closed her eyes and tried to take a few deep breaths but she couldn’t relax until the flames had started licking at the other things in the room. They were almost completely surrounded by the flames before she could calm herself down enough. Finally the flames died out and she opened her eyes back to their normal color.

“I’m sorry.” She said ducking her head in shame as the remaining frame of the couch crumbled to the ground. She looked at Virgil. “I really thought you knew me better. I thought you knew that I cared. I guess you really don’t know me… I’m gonna go for a run.” With that she darted out of the room tears cascading down her face and out the door of the pack house. She shifted into her wolf and disappear into the woods.
