Virgil could feel himself breaking, he was so scared. He had finally found a home again. He had finally let his walls down, and gotten close to people again and it had been snatched away from him. He stared at Molly in disbelief. How could this sweet caring girl say that she was the one responsible for taking him away from his home? His Mate! His Family!
“You said you escaped from Hunter! You said he left you for dead!” Virgil argued trying to somehow rationalize that what she was telling him wasn’t true.
“Is that the line of bullshit she fed you?” Hunter laughed maniacally. Fear filled eyes snapped back to Hunter. Virgil had almost forgotten he was still in the room with them. “I always knew she was good at being a filthy liar. I just never realized how good. Or you must be extremely gullible. Why would I kill my precious pet?” He said grabbing her and pulling her in sticking his nose in her hair and breathing in her scent. She didn’t move, she just stared at Virgil as she let Hunter do whatever he pleased. Hunter eventually pulled away so he could speak again, “No when my pet told me about you I didn’t believe her at first. I thought it was just another one of her games. She likes her games.” He said petting Molly’s head. She shuttered slightly at this. “But then she told me this complicated and intricate story, and you see she isn’t very bright so I knew she had to be telling the truth. I can always tell when she’s lying. There was no way she could think of something so convoluted on her own. Since she was kind enough to tell me. I thought it only fair to let her go fetch you herself.” He spoke as though Molly was a small child who wasn’t in the room. “To prove her story. It did take an awful long time though. I was getting so worried. She also had blocked me out. I couldn’t mind link her for forever. When I finally got through she was being awfully defiant. Weren’t you little one?” He said running his hand up her thigh. Molly’s lip twitched making a disgusted look appear on her face but it was so brief if you blinked you would have missed it.
“But she finally listened after a small bit of persuasion and here you are!” Hunter said grandly, standing up causing Molly to tumble to the ground.
Virgil didn’t even spare Molly a glance as he stared up at Hunter, “Here I am,” He growled, “Now what are you going to do with me.”
“Well here’s the thing. I had originally planned to raise you as my son, to mold you into the perfect heir, but than your bitch of a mother had other plans. So, I am sure you know I have to kill you.” He said it like it was obvious. Virgil could feel his blood run cold as the words settled deep into his soul. He was going to die? “Nothing personal I assure you. I’m aware that none of this is your fault, but I can’t have you getting the idea to try to take over my title now can I?”
“I-if you pl-plan on killing me. Why haven’t you already?” Virgil said feeling himself slipping towards a full on panic attack, but he did not need that right now so he was doing everything in his power not to panic.
“Well where is the fun in that?” Hunter said his eyes flashing, but unlike any werewolf Virgil had met his eyes didn’t flash with color they glowed a dark black absorbing the light around them.
Suddenly a bell went off. Hunter rolled his eyes. “Really? Right before I get to have my fun? My cooks have the worst timing. Ah well I’m hungry anyways and I don’t want my food to get cold.” He said, he grabbed Molly and threw her into a cage just like Virgil’s that Virgil hadn’t noticed before. “You’ll still be here when I get done.” He chuckled lowly and left the room.
This guy had to have some screws loose. Who threatens someone's life and then leaves to go eat their dinner instead?
____________
A few minutes after Hunter had left Virgil heard sobbing from the other cage. “I’m sorry.. I’m so sorry.”
“Why Molly?”
There had to be some sort of explanation she had to have a reason.
“I don’t know! I was scared! I was so scared! Four years Virgil! I have been treated like a pet for four years. I’m not a person to him! He was hurting me so bad! I wanted it to stop! I thought he was going to kill me for sure that time. I said something, anything, that would shock him enough to stop.” Molly cried as she rocked herself in her own cage.
“So, you sold me out to save your own skin?” Virgil spat. Molly flinched violently. Virgil couldn’t help the small feeling of guilt that blossomed in his gut.
“I didn’t mean to. I really didn’t! And when he let me go I never planned on coming back. I wasn’t even going to try and find you. I expected you to still be at the orphanage or long gone. Somewhere far far away. I had hoped you were. I was just running away when you found me. I swear!” Molly’s voice was pleading like she was begging him to believe her. “I should have just left when I found you but I couldn’t it’s my job to keep you safe. I couldn’t bring myself to leave. I was so happy. It was the first time I finally felt something other than pain and misery….or just numbness. But then he started to try and mind link me. I tried to block him out. I didn’t want his voice in my head. That’s why…”
“That’s what caused the headaches isn’t it?” Molly nodded.
“I couldn’t take the pain anymore Virgil, and I had grown to week to keep the block in place. He got in. He told me to bring you to him or else.” She said her chin trembling making her voice shaky.
“Or else what?” Virgil asked. “If you had escaped and he didn't know how to find you what could he do?”
“He has my friends. He said if I didn’t bring you he would kill the only people who ever showed me any kindness in this hell hole. He was going to kill my friends. And I panicked.” She sobbed even harder. “Hunter’s right I am stupid. I don't even know if they are still alive! And I put you in danger to possibly be helping corpses. I'm so selfish!” She said slamming her head against the silver bars. Causing them to burn her but if she felt pain she didn’t react. “Selfish, selfish, selfish!” She said banging her head against the bars each time.
