~Flashback~
“We’re off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of oz, we hear his is a whiz of a Wiz if there ever Wiz there was. The Wizard of Oz is one becoz, becoz, becoz, becoz, becoz, becoz! Becoz of the wonderful things he does! Dodo do dodo do!” Virgil smiled as he shook his head looking behind him seeing Molly skipping down the halls arms linked with her friends singing at the top of her lungs. The rest of the students giving her and her friend group odd looks.
She smiled when she saw Virgil, she broke away from her friends saying a quick goodbye before dashing over to Virgil.
“Must you be so extra? Everyone is staring.” Virgil said feeling a little self conscious.
Molly looked around her smile dipping slightly before it immediately returned to the same chipperness it had before. “So, let them stare. They are just jealous that my friends and I are having fun and they are too insecure to let their hair down for fear of being judged.”
Virgil chuckled to himself, “You are something else Molly.”
“What do you mean.” She asked tilting her head to the side.
“Nothing, come on we are going to miss our bus if we don’t hurry.” Virgil said grabbing Molly’s arm dragging her from the school.
________
The next day it was lunch time and Virgil was sitting outside for lunch. Molly was nearby but she was sitting with her friends, and while Molly had invited Virgil to join them many times Virgil chose not to sit with them. Molly was great, but her friends were just a bit too hyper for Virgil.
Virgil was watching Molly fondly as she joked and laughed with her friends. When suddenly someone was standing in front of him.
“Hey freak you’re in my spot.” Virgil looked at this guy and his group of friends. He was confused by his comment.
“How is this your spot. I have been sitting here at lunch all semester.” Virgil stated.
“Because I said so that’s how.” The boy stated. “Now move.”
“No.” Virgiil said bravely. He wasn’t about to move for some jerk.
The guy’s friends snickered, the guy’s face morphed from general indifference to one of anger. He grabbed Virgil by his hair and pulled him up. Virgil made a noise as he reached his hands to try to pull the guy’s hands from his hair.
Maybe he should have just moved.
“Andrew! Leave him alone!” Molly said running over her friends in tow.“Oh, look the weirdo bitch has come to save her freak friend” The Andrew guy spat. Throwing Virgil to the ground with a thud.
Molly looked at Virgil concerned, before her eyes became deadly calm. She moved quickly and wrapped Andrew’s arm around his back to the point it made a small popping noise. Holding it tight in that position. Then she spoke directly in his ear.
“You see Andrew, I didn’t care when you were making fun of me. If it helps your own insecurities to feel like a big boy bullying some helpless girl, fine. Do what you want, I don’t care. However, you made a big mistake just now. You messed with my family.” She squeezed his arm harder causing another popping sound. “No one messes with them got it?” She practically growled.
Andrew nodded desperately, tears pricking at his eyes from the pain in his arm. “Wonderful, glad we understand each other.” She let go of his arm and let him move away. “Stay away from my friends, and stay away from Virgil.” She said. Then Andrew saw something that nearly made him shit his pants. Molly’s eyes flashed a purple color for only a second, and no one else saw it, but Andrew did. He ran off quickly stumbling over his own feet as he went. His buddies close behind him.
