It was now the end of the week, Cassidy and Remus had trained Virgil enough that he was more adapt and controlling when he shifted and he was better at knowing when his eyes were glowing so he cold work on calming down. It was now the moment of truth.

The shopping trip.

He really didn’t want to go especially since Patton had invited Roman. Virgil hadn’t seen Roman since the last time they interacted. Roman had barred himself off in his office and refused to come out. However, Virgil had already agreed to go and he didn’t want to upset Patton.

So he was going to go.

___________

“Roman come on it’s time to go!” Patton yelled through Roman’s office door.

“Just go without me!” Roman yelled back. “He won’t want me there anyway.” Patton heard mumbled as an afterthought.

“Okay, I am done with all this.” Patton said he took a deep breath before he picked up his foot and kicked open the door.  An unmanly screech came from the otherside.

“Patton!” Roman yelled.

“Get up, get changed, brush your hair. We leave in fifteen minutes.” He said as he picked up a messy looking Roman of the floor pulling him out of the corner he had pressed himself into.

“Patton! I am your Alpha you can’t speak to me like that!” Roman said pulling his arm from Patton.

“Yeah, and I am your friend.” Patton said crossing his arms looking like a disapproving father.

“One,” Patton started counting.

“Why are you counting?” Roman said shifting uneasily.

“Two,”

“Stop your not my dad.”

“Two and a half”

“Okay, okay I’m going just stop.” Roman said giving up and pushing his way past Patton.

Patton smirked and skipped after Roman.

________

Virgil was waiting impatiently in the car for everyone to join him. He was sat in the back seat shifting uneasily. His brain coming up with all the possible what if scenarios of what could happen from this “Shopping day.”
He gripped at his necklace anxiously. A nervous habit he had acquired since coming to the pack house. He looked out the window and saw the other three coming out. His eyes immediately drifted towards Roman, he looked ruff. He had bags under his eyes that could have rivaled Virgil’s and he looked paler than he usually did. Logan slid into the driver's seat and Roman hopped into the front passenger seat. Patton slid next to Virgil in the back of the car. Logan started the engine and they were off.

They made it to the mall in a little over an hour. They all got out of the car and walked in. “Okay kiddo, we’ll follow you. We are here to get stuff for you. Oh, and don’t worry about money. The pack is set financially.”

Virgil cringed, he knew even knowing that he wouldn’t feel too comfortable spending a lot of their money. However, he nodded and walked in a random direction. He had never been to a mall this big before. Being an orphan he didn’t get to go out much and had little to no money to do things. He managed to find his way to one store he did get to go occasionally. Hot Topic!

He felt his body buzz with excitement as he went in. He missed getting to come here. The more he thought about he realized he hadn’t been to a Hot Topic since The Accident.  He looked around for a while. He bought some T-Shirts and some pairs of ripped jeans. He had nowstarted looking at some of their pins and gave some almost laughs at the ones he found amusing.

Roman watched Virgil, and he couldn’t help the dopey smile that came to his face watching Vigil so excited. It was a nice change up.

The group went to a couple more stores and bought a lot of things, but it was getting close to lunch time and they were all getting hungry.

“Hey kiddo, have you ever been to Dave and Busters?” Patton asked Virgil.

Virgil shook his head. He had only heard other people talk about it occasionally, but he never actually been there.

Patton had a mischievous grin spread across his face. “Come on we are so going there to eat.”

Logan groaned, “Must we?”

“Yes we must.” Patton stated matter-of-factly.

They made there way in and Virgil’s jaw dropped. It was filled with neon lights and arcade games. He was in awe. It was all so cool. The bright lights flashed as bells rung. He couldn’t help the excited feeling that swelled up inside him. He dashed around careful to avoid running into anyone as he looked around at all the games.

“H-hey, I uh, bet I can beat you at that game over there.” This was the first time Roman had talked to Virgil since he yelled at him and he had a feeling he already new Virgil wouldn’t want to play with him.

A determined look flooded Virgil’s face, He was too excited to care about anything else. “You’re on!” He said competitively.

“Alright kiddos, here is your cards with credits. Me and Logan are going to go get us some food. When you want to take a break you can come eat.” Patton said handing them the cards. He grabbed Logan’s hand and started dragging him away.

“Patton, dear it’s Logan and I.” Virgil heard Logan say as they walked away.

“I know!” Patton said cheerfully.

“Then why?” Patton smirked at his mate. “Oh I see,” Logan stated amused.

Virgil smirked at the two of them being cute and then dashed off to the game Roman had challenged him to. Roman quickly caught up.

______

After a few games Virgil had beat Roman at every single one. Virgil laughed as Roman hit the game in frustration when he died at a lower score than Virgil. “Are you always this bad Princey or are you just letting me win?” Virgil asked. He was doubled over laughing.

Roman pouted before he realized something, “Did you just call me princey?”

“Oh, um... shut up!” Virgil said punching Roman gently in the shoulder and walking off. His cheeks flushed bright red. Roman grabbed his shoulder while shaking his head and running after Virgil a smile on his face.
_______

After they sat down and ate Patton and Logan joined them to play more games.

They were looking at the prizes when Patton squealed. There was a pusheen cat lamp that Patton was staring at it, with stars in his eyes. He looked excitedly at Logan, who sighed. It was 300,000 points. So Logan went back out and he calculated game would provide the most points in the quickest amount of time. After doing so he played it for two hours, before acquiring the cat lamp for Patton who hugged it close to himself. As they all finally left the mall.

Logan and Patton sat together in the front this time. Patton holding onto Logan’s hand as Logan drove. Roman and Virgil sat in the back.

Virgil was happy. He couldn’t believe it but he was. He hadn’t felt this kind of contentment since the morning before the accident. He didn’t even think about it when he leaned his head on Roman’s shoulder. Roman tensing at the sudden contact.

“Virgil?”

“Don’t say anything, just enjoy the moment. K?” Virgil said calmly.

Roman didn’t say anything and nodded.

Maybe things would be okay again.

They were almost home when the breaks of the car squealed.

Patton screamed in horror, and Roman grabbed on tight to Virgil.

Then…

Silence.
