"Is everyone okay?” Logan asked out of breath from the adrenaline rush.
Patton nodded and Roman looked down at a shaking but otherwise unharmed Virgil. “Yeah we’re okay.” Roman stated. “What the hell happened?”
“Something just jumped out in front of the car.” Logan stated.
Virgil was breathing hard when a smell reached his nose. He couldn’t explain it but he knew that smell. He pulled away from Roman and got out of the car. “Virgil where are you…” Roman paused taking a deep breath, his eyes flashing bright red. “Virgil get back in the car.”
Virgil ignored him as he rounded to the front of the car and stopped dead in his tracks. Standing there in front of him was a pure white wolf. With glowing purple eyes. Roman and the other’s darted out of the car and stood by Virgil all of them glaring at it. All their eyes glowing brightly. As they growled deeply. This wolf did not have permission to be on their land. How it got this deep into it without them knowing was very upsetting. The white wolf growled right back at them not seeming scared at all, but Virgil and the other’s could smell the fear coming of it in waves.
The three of them pushed forward growling. The wolf took a step back and it winced. That’s when Virgil noticed something he hadn’t been paying attention to before. The wolves hind leg looked almost torn to shreds and it looked extremely malnourished. Blood stained its pure white fur and it looked about ready to collapse. The others didn’t seem to care as they approached it threateningly.
It’s purple eyes darted around at all of them before settling on Virgil. Its nose lifted slightly taking in the smells around it. Recognition flashed across its face, before it seemed to relax and collapsed to the ground and whimpering slightly. The others weren’t deterred this was a wolf deep in their territory, basically at their pack house and it shouldn't be here. Patton did seem to at least show mild concern for the state it was in, but he had even been cautious of Virgil until they talked for the first time this was no different.
Roman started to approach it aggressively. The purple eyes looked pleadingly at Virgil. Virgil didn’t know why, but he had to protect this wolf.
In a flash Virgil had shifted midair jump and placed his body over the white wolf snapping aggressively at the others.
Everyone froze.
“Virgil what are you doing move!” Roman demanded.Virgil narrowed his eyes and laid his body lower over the top of the white wolf. Gently as not to hurt it. He growled protectively.
Roman deflated and his eyes flickered. The red fading. “Ugh fine!”
Both Patton and Logan’s eyes stopped glowing as well. Virgil relaxed and leaned down licking the white wolf behind the ears.
Tired eyes looked up at Virgil thankfully, before they fluttered closed. Virgil stepped way from being on top of it and shimmied his way underneath balancing the skinny wolf on his tall back. He looked at the others. They all looked thoroughly confused and Roman looked hurt. Virgil turned away and trotted the rest of the distance to the pack house.
_______
When Virgil arrived he was greeted by a not so friendly reception. The others in the pack house smelled the foreighn sent approaching the pack house and all were ready to fight.
Virgil growled at them as he walked passed them into the pack house. They all looked at each other confused. All mind linking their Alpha asking questions. They didn't have to wait long before the others arrived in the car. They tried to bombard them with questions. Roman just stalked past them and went after Virgil. So, Logan filled them in on what happened.
Roman made his way in and saw that Virgil had shifted back to his human form after placing the white wolf on a soft cushion in the living room. He was sitting next to it while running his fingers through it ratted fur.
"Why protect it? They are a danger to my pack." Roman spat.
"Your pack?" Virgil said with a quirked eyebrow.
“Virgil you know what I mean.” Roman stated.
“Yeah, I think I do.”
They fell into a tense silence for a minute before the wolf started fusing in it’s sleep.“Shh it’s okay, I’ve got you. You’re safe now.” Virgil said stroking its head gently. It settled before blinking its eyes open slowly.
It hopped up blinking disorientated. Before looking at Virgil. It relaxed and sighed. Before closing its eyes and shifting.
Before Virgil even knew what was happening he had a girl his age jumping in his lap and sobbing.
“Virgil!” Roman said when the girl jumped at him, but Virgil was too stunned to do anything. He looked down at the frail girl in his arms.
“Virgil! I thought I would never see you again!” She sobbed. “I’m so happy! She pulled back and looked at Virgil. “You found a pack! I’m so glad. I was so worried about you. How’s Marry? Oh god I missed her.” Virgil felt himself starting to feel choked up, but he didn’t say anything. He was shocked. “You do remember me right? I know it's been a while.”
Virgil gently pushed back her hair and then pulled her in tight.
“Of course I remember you, Molly. How could I forget my little sister?”
