The next morning, Lucas began writing the next entry in his journal. He wrote, "It doesn't matter how deep the shadow is. It will always be threatened by morning light. That's what he believes. But I believe there is no escape for me in this deep shadow. Then again, if life was too predictable, it would cease to be life at all. It would be flavorless."

He then closed his journal and began petting Smokey. Lucas looked at the cat and said to himself, "No matter what, you're technically my first friend Smokey. And that'll never change. You experienced her death along with me all those years ago. I won't let anything happen to you though." Before Lucas knew it, Smokey had already fell asleep on his lap. It made Lucas smile.

Eventually, Lucas had heard a knock on his door. Timothy had arrived. Lucas answered the door and said, "Greetings my friend." Timothy smiled and said, "Hey Lucas. So are you ready to go?" Lucas replied, "No, but I'll go anyways since you're my friend." Timothy asked, "Why don't you like society Lucas?" Lucas frowned and said, "I cannot discuss why I dislike the public. It is a personal issue that I cannot discuss with anybody. Not even a friend. I hope you understand." Timothy smiled and replied, "It's okay. But trust me, society isn't as awful as you think it is. And that's why today will be the day I show you that." Lucas sighed and followed Timothy out of the house.

When they got to the main center of the city, Lucas's anti-social side kicked in. Lucas whispered, "Timothy, I would like to go home now. I can't stand the idea of being in public." But Timothy didn't respond. Lucas tried to get his attention, but Timothy was completely distracted. He was staring across the street at a girl skateboarding. She had green hair and yellow eyes. She waved across the street at Timothy and smiled. Timothy blushed and waved back at her. Lucas tapped Timothy's shoulder and asked, "Who is that girl over there? Do you know each other?" Timothy replied, "Oh, that's my friend Jessica. I kinda have a crush on her. But please, don't tell her." Lucas asked, "Define your definition of what that word means. I am not familiar with it." Timothy said, "To have a crush on someone means you're in love with them." Lucas replied, "I lost the ability to love years ago. I hate love. And I hate being in love. I never want it to happen to me again. Love is just pain." Timothy said, "Don't be like that Lucas. Love is a good thing."

Suddenly, Jessica skateboarded across the street and said, "Yo Timothy! Who's your new friend? He's kinda hot." Lucas replied, "I am not hot. I have an abnormally cold blood temperature." Jessica began laughing. She said, "Timothy, your new friend is so funny!" Lucas replied, "What's so funny?" Instantly, Timothy felt his heart completely shatter and he whispered to himself, "She's never called me hot or said I was funny, dang it."
