Forty-Six

The lady from the desk knocks on a door before opening it. Before I walk in the lady hands me back my headshots and resumes. I grab them and I walk in slightly confused. I look around and see a table with 2 adults, one guy, and one girl, on one side and 3 students on the other. Macy is one of the students and her jaw drops when she sees me walk in.

"Thank you, Dianna." One of the adults says as I make my way to the empty seat "Hi, Kasey, right?" she asks holding out her hand. I nod

"Yes Ma'am" I politely smile shaking her hand and then the other adult's hand before sitting down, putting my bag against my feet, and laying my headshots in my lap since I have a feeling I will need them soon.

"So formal. We don't need that darling. I am Kelly Rider the head coach here but everyone calls me Coach Kelly or just Coach" The first adult in the room says I nod

"And I am Coach Eddie. Nice to meet you" The guy says

"Nice to meet you both." I smiled unsure of what to say

"Coach. Who is that, this?" Macy asks

"You 4 girls are the ones currently being considered for the captain and co-captain positions. You are being considered because of your leadership roles, previous experiences, and the good example we believe you would be for our team. That being said this interview will be more in-depth than your typical interview would be." Coach Kelly says

"But who just walked in? She wasn't on the team last year" Macy speaks up again.

"No, but we think she would be a great captain. But remember this part of your tryout, especially since you are all being considered for a leadership role on the team, everything you say, and all of your actions all count tremendously. Be mindful and respectful when you speak and while you are listening to others speak" Coach Kelly tells us

"We already got to introduce and question the other girls since we decided to have you join us late. So really quick everyone go down the line and just say your name, year in school, field of study, and a quick fun fact." Coach Eddie tells us and everyone nods "Perfect. Then, Kasey, you will finish it off for us. But first, do you have your copy of all of the required paperwork?" he asks I nod clearing my throat slightly while handing one of the folders with everything required in it to both Coach Kelly and Coach Eddie.

"I'll start." The girl on the opposite end of me says standing up "Hi my name is London, I am currently a junior so I am going into my senior year, I am majoring in Political Science, my fun fact is that I had never seen a Disney movie until I started college." she says before sitting down but she is barely seated before Macy is jumping out of her chair.

"Hey everyone I am your current captain Macy, I was also your co-captain the two years before, I am going into my senior year and I am studying Business Administration. And a fun fact about me is that I was captain my 7th through 12th-grade years and then have been either co-captain or captain every year I have been here." Macy says in a very obnoxious fake voice making a stupid face before sitting down. I watch Kelly and Eddie look at each, other, roll their eyes, and make a note on their pages. That makes my smile a little less fake.

"I'm Maddie, I am currently a Sophmore so I am going into my junior year but I am going to be needing to take the 5th year. My major is Criminology and minor in Cybersecurity. And um, a fun fact about me is that I am one of 7 kids. I am the youngest and the only girl, my mom wanted to stop after 3 boys but my dad really wanted a girl so they kept trying until they had me" Maddie says before sitting down

"Thanks, guys. Kasey, you can go ahead." Coach Eddie says

"By the way Kasey, thank you for providing two copies of your required paperwork. It is a lot easier for us not to be sharing one," Kelly says with what I hope is a genuine smile on her face. I didn't want to be a captain or co-captain until Macy said how she had been it for so long and now I want it just so she can't have it.
