A change of environment

It's only when you lose something that you begin to realize its importance. You'dnever appreciate the greatness of even the wonderful physical features of yourcountry until a tourist arrived and made a big deal about it! Suddenly youreyes open to see the wondrous creation of God that lies perhaps just a fewhundred meters away from your residence, but for the tourists, a certain kindof admiration would start to stir up.

In the same year of 2014, I left boarding school. It was the end of term holidays and I set out as a new born again convert. Boy I had confidence! I felt spiritual. There was so much I thought I would overcome. I had been born again exactly two months and in that period of time, I was convinced I had mastered the craft of being a good born again convert. I never had so many scriptures in my mind, but I had enough to convince someone I had received spiritual surgery, yes, I had become born again. And the whole world was going to know!

The most important thing you might want to do as a believer is to know your strengths and your weaknesses. Learn enough about yourself to know where you stand, to know what you can and cannot do. It helps you to become more dependent on God than in your capabilities.

1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

 TheNew Living Translation says, 'If youthink you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.' Had I known thisscripture a few years ago, it would save me a whole lot. However, I thank God Iexperienced all I did. Our testimonies come out of the worst of circumstances,and in such kind of situations, we can only say, God had been on our side.

Oneof the hardest battles you will have to fight is one of losing key friends. Atsome point, those that you hang around would have to be left behind if you areto successfully serve God. I cannot describe how painful it was having to leavefriends that I mentored in evil schemes. I led a group of feisty lads. How wasI to tell them I had some scriptures laid upon my heart? How was I to be takenserious? If there was a person that never could have been born again, it's me.My being born again, started a relationship with my family that I never had. Itbrought about a change in my family that only God could orchestrate.

The reason why salvation is important is that it delivers you from evil. When Jesus Christ died on that cross, His death released power, and that power charged the first disciples to preach at whatever costs. The cross enabled Peter to speak as boldly as He did. The power of the cross caused Philip to lead the Ethiopian Eunuch to Christ. The bible adds to say, He went around preaching to all the towns until He reached Caesarea. (See Acts 8:26-40). What makes a person stop all they are doing to preach? The bible says, the Eunuch couldn't understand what He read and Philip preached the good news of Salvation.

 Whatbetter news is there for people going to hell if not the gospel of Salvation?What would make sinful people like us to dwell in Heaven had someone notpreached to us and brought us up in the Lord in order that we see the beauty ofsalvation. For me, my light skinned guy saved me. He was an agent of God thatfought through being embarrassed and insulted by a black guy that had so muchpride.

If the cross never carried any power, why would Jesus risk being cast away just for you and me to be at His bosom? Salvation is the gospel of love and redemption. Because God loves us, He gave us His only son, that you and I might be saved. Now that He saved you and saved me, what will we do about the others on the brink of being taken away to Hell?
