One of the few things I noticed about my shepherd was the love he had for me. I never talked to him for the entirety of my break. I had his phone number, but calling him seemed a little too difficult a task to achieve. I knew he wasn’t going to judge me. I knew he wasn’t going to avoid my calls. Had I attempted, I would have gotten help.
However, I was back in school and ready to continue the journey. I was a bit on a pit break. Now that I returned, change was going to occur.
The thing we might not understand about being born again is the need to stir up the word of God in us. Immediately when one is born again, the next most important thing is to study the word of God. The word of God gives light and shines over the dark areas in our lives. We cannot assume we are strong or ready for a type of relationship with Jesus until we learn to study the word of God. The word of God causes the transformation of the mind. When I became born again, my spirit was reborn but my mind and body remained the same.
To stay attuned to the word of God our minds need to change. Our minds only change when we are frequently listening to the word of God. Consequently, our faith increases thereby. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the word of God.( See Romans 10:17). The more we hear and listen, the more faith we possess. It’s important to have faith because faith is the Christian attribute that pleases God.
Jer 3:15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
(KJV)A pastor with accordance to the scriptures is somebody that tends to the flock. A pastor is a person that feeds people with the word of God. A shepherd in other words.
Most of us think being a pastor is teaching the word of God on Sundays. Of course, our pastors teach us every Sunday. My pastor teaches me the word of God every Sunday and because of that relationship, my expectation is to be fed with the word of God. Much as we have pastors that preach to us on Sundays, every other person that feeds you the word of God constantly, is your pastor.
The bible says, I will give you pastors according to mine heart. God was thinking about you when He sent you that one person that is always feeding you. He had you on His thoughts when a brother or a sister visited you at the point where you needed the word of God. And He keeps on sending you pastors.
The bible says, pastors. Already we know it’s more than one person that God is sending. Not just one, but more than one. It’s a great privilege to have someone preach the word of God to us. In the NIV version, the Bible says, then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.
When you receive a gift that comes from the heart, it’s so special and amazing. Something from the heart shows how much a person loves you. Our pastors lead us with knowledge and understanding. It’s one of their roles as shepherds. To feed us.
