Joh 21:15 ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
(KJV)The reason why you got saved is for you to save another person. Don’t think of saving others as a commission left to pastors and deacons and leaders in the church. When we think of a savior, of course it’s Jesus that comes to mind. And being called a savior of another doesn’t not rob Jesus of His title or glory. It actually pleases Him that would even attempt at such a difficult task.
When you do what God wants, it says more about how much you love Him than any other thing. Jesus equated being loved by having Simon preach to His lambs or to nations in others words. To Jesus, if Peter didn’t preach the gospel of salvation, then He didn’t love him. The commission to preach was not left to Peter alone. Apostle Peter is no more anyway. Must the gospel not disseminate because the message was directly sent to Peter?
It seems like Jesus had chosen just one person to preach to all nations. The passage of scripture seems more a private dialogue to Peter than to the rest of us. It would be sad if we thought like that. While there’s many preaching salvation to the lost, not preaching about it displeases God.
I remember growing up as a little kid, my father always wanted me to read a book before I slept. Sometimes he wanted me to read before I watched T.V. Reading to my father was more important to him than doing homework.
Doing homework was the best thing I thought I could do to please my dad. I mean, I needed to do homework every day to present it to my teachers the next day. It seemed normal to want to believe that’s the thing that would cause my father to be happy. Sometimes I never read and happily showed him my homework book, hoping he’d be excited and quite jovial.
Most times, he would just ask me if I read a book that day. It was so painful to me that’d figure out all the math problems. Math was so hard for me and the fact that on some days, I worked hard at it and got everything correct. It was a personal achievement. My dad never saw it that way. He wasn’t happy until he knew I read a book.
We all have the things we deem as important to God. It’s bad to assume doing certain things will make a relationship work out when there’s usually the one thing that would please our partner if we did it. The same thing applies to God. He wants people to attain a savior kind of mentality, not for self-glorification, or to have it attributed to us of how mighty we turned out to be. No! He wants the kingdom to be His. When the avengers rose up it wasn’t to display their unique abilities, but through them the world would maintain stability.
We are not avengers. There’s no Thor. Captain America won’t be showing up here. We have the Holy Spirit that causes us to minister to others and to minister with the power that would enable a change of heart and attitude.
