Joh 8:12 ¶ Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
(KJV)
The words that Jesus speaks are pure life and are a prophecy. The word of God never fails and it withers not. While everything else perishes, only the word of God is able to stand the test of time. As time goes on, things changes, but the word of God remains the same.
Following Jesus is a guarantee that we will live in the light. Jesus is the light of the word and those that follow him, obtain his light. Following Jesus means to be the same as Jesus. To behave as Jesus would.
Jesus cannot be separated from salvation. Salvation is Jesus, and Jesus is salvation. Jesus' concern about the world today, is the very same concern he had when he walked the surface of the earth. He lived knowing that he die for our sins and to awake rejuvenated in spirit.
What the scripture above also means is that Jesus has no trait of darkness. Traits of darkness are characteristics of the devil, what Jesus has is the light and he offers that light to everyone that follows him.
Another thing we learn about the light of Jesus is its ability to stir up life. Not only does Jesus offer light but life within the package. There is no light apart from Jesus Christ. He is the true light of the world.
Joh 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
(KJV
It is a known fact that we are all born of sin. We've known this for as long as we can remember. We learned about it in Sunday school, if you never went to Sunday school, now you know. You were born in sin. No one is ever born righteous, hence, the need to become born again believers. It is not natural for man to live a life in its purest form.
The closest image of God is portrayed in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ and God are one. (See John 10:30). Everything we see about Jesus is an image of who God is. God is a perfect God and when he sent Jesus Christ, it was a way of showing us how to live a righteous life.
Righteousness in embedded in the core of son of man. To follow Jesus is to embrace righteousness. None is righteous, as we have already established. One man is righteous and through that man, many will be made righteous. (See Romans 5:19).
If you were in a situation where you needed to take a drug in order to survive, wouldn't you take it? Would you wait for someone to tell you the importance of taking that drug if you knew that you'd have life after taking the drug? When we deny Christ, we indirectly choose to die in sins. He is the only hope for salvation.
Ac 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
(KJV)
This is it! Jesus is all we have and when we deny Him, no one else will save us. Jesus is our mediator. He stands in proxy for God. Through Him, we get to enjoy the privilege of knowing the Father. Jesus was the lawyer that was sent to us. Jesus is Heaven's lawyer and He has never lost any single case! He is the best lawyer the world will ever see!
