Linda's cheeks burned as she laid under her covers. She closed her eyes as her head throbbed. She groaned, trying to get out from the comfy bed. Her head didn't hurt that much, maybe if she just went back to sleep it would go away? She sighed and rolled over, snuggling close to her husband. His body automatically responded to hers as his hand gripped her forearm lightly. She sighed, thinking of sleep; she was almost asleep when her throat started to burn and her stomach started to lurch. Quickly she got out of bed and rushed to the en-suite. Dropping to her knees and lifting the toilet lid and seat, she hunched over. She threw up the contents of the little dinner she ate; as she hurled, she felt hands gently hold her hair out of the way. She leaned back on Danny, groaning, "sorry I woke you."
"'S'okay." He felt her forehead with his cool hand, "but you're not okay."
She shook her head, suddenly feeling pathetic. All she wanted to do now was sleep in the cozy bed.
"Come on," Danny helped Linda stand, "let's check that temperature."
Linda swayed a little as she stood near the door, waiting for the thermometer. She closed her eyes as her husband stuck it in her ear.
"One-oh-two point five," he frowned, switching ears. "And.... one oh one point nine." He did not like those high numbers, "do you think you could hold down a Tylenol?"
Linda shook her head, then pinched her nose. Although she could easily and professionally take care of herself, it made her heart swell with love for her husband that he was looking after her.
"Could you try? I really don't want that fever to spike," Danny pushes her bangs away from her eyes, noting her slightly goofy grin.
"'Kay." She held out her hand for the pills.
Danny walked to the medicine cabinet and dispensed two Tylenol. He walked back to Linda, then picked her up bridal style. He smiled when she rested her head on his. He lowered her to the bed, tucking her in. Handing her the pills, he grabbed the thermos filled with water off the nightstand.
Linda took the pills one at a time, never being able to master throwing them in her mouth then swallowing a big gulp of liquid.
Danny kissed her nose, "wake me if you need anything."
Linda nodded as he climbed over her onto his side of the bed. "Danny?" She laid down on her side. "You're the best."
"I'm only fulfilling my vow." He got under the covers and faced his bride.
"What's that?"
"In sickness and in health," he kissed her hot cheek as he eyes fluttered close.
"Till death.... do us.... part," Linda finished, falling asleep.
"Till death do us part," Danny whispered, leaning over to kiss her cheek again. "Feel better, baby."
**********
Linda was surprised to see Danny home at eleven o'clock in the morning. "What's wrong?"
"I came to take care of you," he took his tie off, throwing onto a chair. "I'll put that away, promise."
"Don't you have work to do?"
He kicked off his shoes, "Nope. Got Sarge to give me the day off. I have to go in on Saturday, but to take care of you? It's worth it," he sat on the bed, leaning in to give her a kiss.
"No!" Linda scooted to the very edge of his side of the bed. "You'll get sick!"
Danny frowned, then shrugged. He had an idea; he stood up and walked out of the room. Linda whimpered and put her head in her hands.
Danny peeked into he room, seeing her face hidden behind her hands. He snuck to his side of the bed, gently grabbed her wrists, and kissed her lips. He inwardly smirked when he felt her open her mouth for his always-wanting tongue.
"What're you doing?" She wondered, looking into his eyes.
"Taking my chances." He kissed her again, knowing he'd probably get sick. He didn't care, though; if taking care of Linda when she was sick came at the price of him getting sick, he'd be more than willing to pay that price.
