One of Linda Reagan's patients was a witness to her husband's case. The patient had had a pretty bad beating, landing him in the ER for over night observations. His name was Maverick, and he was rude to the nurses and doctors. He had been assigned a pretty blonde nurse who steadily ignored him. He'd just have to get her to give him her attention.
Linda pulled the curtain back, looking at the chart. "Mr. Williams-"
"No, no, please. Call me Maverick."
Linda held back her eye roll, "Maverick, you're a witness to a case. Didn't you have police protection?"
"I ditched 'em."
She looked at him in disbelief, "you ditched 'em? Do you know how dangerous that is? Obviously, you got out lucky, but you could've died!"
"But I'm here. I'm all here."
The nurse didn't want to think about what he meant by all of him. "Since you're staying over night, we're gonna have to put you in a room. It's not private, but it's better than these curtains." She gestured to the curtains. "The detectives are coming to question you before we move you."
"You've already moved me, beautiful." He flashed a sexy smile at her, disappointed she was looking at the chart again.
She held up her left hand, "married."
"Yeah, but how married are you?"
"So married that as soon as my husband hears you've been flirting with me, he's gonna take away the only tree in your forest."
"What about a tree?" Danny walked in along with his partner, Tom.
"Oh, nothing," Linda smiled sweetly, "he's all yours."
"Mr. Williams," Tom and Danny walked over to the bed, "can you tell us what happened?"
He looked passed them, ogling Linda, who was jotting stuff down on his chart. "I most certainly can." He spoke in short, choppy sentences as he watched the blonde nurse.
"'Scuse me," Linda ducked past the detectives with an IV bag in her hand. She turned around, her back to her patient. She quickly switched the bags, then felt a hand on her bottom. She rolled her eyes, "stop it."
"But you're so pretty," Maverick protested.
"I am also so very married. So very happily married. Wanna know what kinda man he is?" She had an annoyed smile on her face, her arms crossed. "A jealous man. A jealous, hot headed man. So unless you want your tree cut down, I suggest you stop now."
"Oh come on, you don't mean that." He rolled his eyes, then jumped. "Ow! What was that for?!"
Danny had soundly punched him in the shoulder. "She said back off, so I suggest you do." His menacing tone was barely disguised.
He rolled his eyes, "her husband isn't even here! I doubt he's that jealous."
"Respect! Ever heard of it? There was even a song about it!"
"Yeah, in the sixties! An oldie."
"Listen, buster," Linda almost growled, "I've put up with your flirting and out dated pick up lines. I've put up with your innuendos and your ogling. But I will not put up with you grabbing and groping me. And don't try to say you're not in your right mind, cause that never works."
Maverick still dug in, "how small must your husband's dick be in order for him to get jealous every time someone innocently flirts with you?"
"Maverick Williams," Danny said in a somewhat official tone, "you're under arrest." He slapped cuffs on the patient's wrists.
"What? What for?!"
"For the attempted assault and the harassment of Linda Reagan, and the verbal assault of a detective."
Maverick looked to Linda, as if she would get him out of this.
"Oh, didn't I tell you?" Linda smiled sweetly, "Detective Reagan's my husband. And his dick is absolutely perfect, thank you very much. Much bigger than yours. Much, much... bigger."
***********
"Too bad the charges didn't stick," Danny mumbled a few days later as he sat in bed with his wife.
She shrugged, "I don't care. Lots of patients flirt with me. It's just that he was over the top."
"Yeah, he was. Assaulting my wife," he put his arm around her and kissed her cheek.
She smiled, "you'd think the rings would be a big turn off."
"To some guys it's a challenge," he kissed her shoulder, bringing the strap of her nightgown off.
"That's stupid. It's really insulting when I tell them I'm married, and they're so shocked. I don't know what to think. Is it because I'm ugly-"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. First off, nobody talks about my wife that way. Even my wife. Secondly, they can't believe you're married cause you're so drop-dead gorgeous, they can't believe you're true to one man."
"So they think I'm a slut?"
Danny bit her shoulder, silently cursing himself. "There's no way I'm digging myself out of this one, huh?"
"Well.... I can think of one or two things..."
The detective smiled- he knew that tone. He bit her shoulder once more, lowering her into the mattress.
