It's The Little Things

When twenty year old Danny came back for Rest and Relaxation from Iraq, he started noticing things. Little things, like how his Mom liked to steal kisses from his Dad. Like how Joe was very helpful and observant, readily offering to help Mom or Dad or anyone who needed help. He noticed how his sister had become a young woman, with verbal skills he could only dream he possessed. He noticed Jamie's brain had become more logical- well, more logical than the average ten year old. But the thing he noticed most was his girlfriend.
Had she always sandwiched her thumbnail between her teeth if she was confused or embarrassed? Had she always bitten her tongue, scrunched her nose, and shrugged when he gave her a compliment? Had she always used 'Y'know' and 'okay' excessively? Had she always looked this beautiful?
Danny realized the answer to all his questions was 'yes'. He just hadn't seen it, hadn't heard it, hadn't payed attention before. So he made a small vow; he vowed to observe the blonde throughout the week.
She bit her thumbnail when confused. She adorably bite her tongue, scrunched her nose, blushed, and shrugged when he gave her a compliment. She excessively used 'y'know' and 'okay' in sentences. And she had always been beautiful.
"Linda?" Danny turned to her as they laid in the grass the last sunny afternoon he would get to spend with her for a while.
She turned her head, the sunshine lighting her features. "Yes, Danny?"
"Do you know that I love you?"
Linda bite her tongue, scrunched her nose, and blushed. "I love you more."
"I love you most." He kissed her lips, happy he found someone like her.
