"Jacob, you can't just leave! Not when I need you the most!" My mother screamed from the living room about as loud as she could at my father. Her eyes were glassy and held the same level of sorrow it always did during these types of arguments.
"I didn't ask for this Jenna!" He screamed louder petrified of responsibility. He was indecisive and immature not taking responsibility of his actions. He was the poster-boy of teen dads who didn't know what they were doing.
"Well I didn't ask for you to sleep around with other women! But yet here we are!" she screamed even louder than he did, which was a hard task to fulfill. They did this just about everyday, at least the days he was actually here.
"I don't need this! Goodbye Jenna!" He finished off his rant of excuses slamming the door behind him abandoning his girlfriend and toddler.
She quickly ran to the door and opened it yelling, "Fuck you Jacob! I don't need you!" She knew it was a lie. We were dependent on him like he was to drugs.
She quickly ran to me like she just realized that I was crying. But usually she and daddy didn't hear me yelling stop or crying shaking my crib frame back and forth. Not sure why I'm surprised.
"Hush baby it'll be alright. We don't need him, we'll be fine."
But boy was she wrong. Those moments of screaming and yelling I'd remember even though I was two years old. I was already set for disaster before I was born.
My dad being in and out of my life caused inconsistencies, but my moms boyfriends in between my dads visits were only a piece of the puzzle.
I had awful parents causing me, among other things, to go down a path that caused me more pain than any soul should endure.
My path was chosen for me. And whoever I was or could've been was taken away. Sadly, this made me take the long way to finding myself. And the Journey to Escaping my own darkness was a roller coaster and even that was an understatement.
