As he promised, San returned home a few hours later, arms full of shopping bags, and since he had recently become a millionaire, he hadn't held back when it came to spending. I tried to wrap my head around all the brand name garments and beautiful fabrics that he had bought me. It had probably cost more than all of my tuition combined.
I was already starting to feel a bit better, about the clothes and also about having a friendly face around. He helped me carry all the bags up the stairs to the spare closet in his room on the third floor. Both out of breath from the stairs, we slumped down on the leather couch in his room.
"Thanks again San."
"No problem, anything I can do to make your time here more comfortable." He smiled at me sweetly.
"Actually, there is one thing..." I took a slow breath.
He tilted his head curiously, "What is it?"
"I... Can I call my mom? Just to let her know that I'm alright? I mean she probably thinks that I'm dead or something, and I just hate to make her worry."
San thought about it for a moment. It did seem like the nice thing to do, and he didn't see how it could cause any harm. "I should probably ask Hongjoong..."
"Oh come on San, you know that he would say no." I pleaded with him. I knew Hongjoong would never allow it, partially because he was so soulless and partially because he was clever enough to understand my plan. Not that San wasn't smart, he was just a little naïve.
"Yeah, I guess that's fine, but I need to listen to make sure that you are only calling your mom. And you can't tell her our names or anything about where we are!" He tried to think if there was anything else, but he couldn't think of anything. He carefully pulled his sleek black phone out of his pocket and handed it over.
This is where I made sure to be very careful. I stood up from the couch and took a couple casual steps away, making sure to not arouse any suspicion. Just close enough where he still felt like he was watching me, but just far enough away so that he couldn't actually see the screen. I dialed the number and waited as the phone rang.
"Emergency services, what is your emergency?" A monotone voice answered from the other end. My heart beat quickly, but I made sure to hide my nerves well.
"Hi mom, it's me."
"What? Miss, I think you have the wrong number. If this is some kind of joke, I'll have you know that it is a criminal offense to make a prank call to emergency services." The voice got angry, and I got afraid that the operator would hang up on me. I wasn't going to get another chance at this.
I continued, choosing my words carefully. "No, mom I'm fine. I know the police probably called you to tell you that I got kidnapped. I didn't want you to worry, so they let me call to tell you that I'm not hurt."
"Miss, you..." The operator tried to cut me off, but then the word kidnapped. "Wait did you say kidnapped? Miss, are you the hostage that's still missing from the robbery at the Bank of Korea?"
I emphasized my answer, "Yes mom, I'm really fine. They said that they would let me go eventually." San watched, but didn't seem suspicious. I just had to delicately walk the line between giving the operator information and getting caught.
"Okay, don't worry miss. We can track the location of this call. It may take a few hours, but we will send enforcement as soon as possible. You need to be safe while you're waiting. Don't make the criminals angry and don't try to escape. Help is on the way soon."
I wanted to breath a sigh of relief but I didn't dare. San started to look impatient, motioning for me to end the call. "Okay, I have to go now, but don't worry please. I'll be okay. I love you."
The operator hung up and the phone line went silent. I handed the phone back to San and he slid it back into his pocket. Now all I had to do was to act normal and wait.
We went downstairs, and joined the others. They were watching a movie together. I did feel a little bit bad. I couldn't help but wonder if anyone would get hurt when the police got to the house. My stomach was so knotted, I couldn't concentrate on the movie. Yunho was completely entranced with the screen, wide eyed, like at little kid. Mingi would let a deep laugh slip out after a particularly funny scenes. I didn't want them to get hurt.
Why do I have to care about them so damn much?

Note to Reader:
Lmao this is a short and badly-written chapter, sorry. Next one will be more exciting. I've been really busy with work this week, so I haven't really had the time to think about my writing like I normally do. This weekend, I'll write a couple chapters for sure, and I have some more ideas for drama and smut chapters :)
