I remembered the events that followed in dream-like snippets. I couldn't tell if what was happening was legitimately taking place, or if I was hallucinating.
I felt my weaken body being lifted out of my cell and carried out of the station. Yunho's expression was somewhere between worry and absolute panic. My eyes glanced around, and I noticed a couple of uniformed officers sprawled on the floor as we made our way out the front door.
Before my brain could register anything else, I was being placed into the backseat of a car that promptly accelerated, throwing my weight against the car seat. I knew there were people in the front of the vehicle, but I couldn't focus on who they were. I could feel myself getting light headed. My skull weighed my head down until I passed out against the car window.
----
I woke up in an unfamiliar bedroom. It was small room with large windows that overlooked the ocean. I felt groggy, but I still forced myself up. I tried to connect the events that had led to me being here, but I could only make out bits and pieces, made even more difficult by my struggle differentiating reality from the hallucinations.
Without warning, the beige walls began whispering. I grabbed my head There were multiple voices this time, and they seemed distant. I couldn't make out what they were saying. Sitting up a little straighter, I worryingly called out to them.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" My throat was a little dry, making my questions come out cracked and quiet.
Nervously, I waited a moment as the voices continued, then tried again a bit louder. "Hello? Is someone there?"
The voices grew silent. Then the doorknob began to rattle open. I flinched as the door opened, but relaxed at the sight of a familiar face.
"Y/N! You're awake!" Dahyun ran in and wrapped me in a hug. A wave of relief washed over me. She felt real. I couldn't be sure this wasn't a dream, but I was too tired of trying to discern what was and wasn't reality. I sunk down, my body going slack in her arms.
"You're tired! Lie back down, I'll have the one of the boys bring you some food." She urged me back down.
"The boys?" I stared up confused. "Dahyun, how did I get here? And where is here?"
"Don't you remember? Yunho and Mingi found out that the police were keeping you. They came and found me, and we worked together to get you out of there. Lucky we did too, they were keeping you like a prisoner in there. I seriously can't believe they would treat you like that." She shook her head in disbelief.
"But where am I now?" I asked again.
She looked down sheepishly. "You might not like it, but we're at a safehouse in Busan with the robbers. And before you say anything, just remember that they just saved you. Plus, the police will be looking for us too now that you've escaped. They already had a safe place for us to stay, it seemed like our best option"
I wasn't sure, but she continued. "Look, I didn't trust them at first either. But they all really seem to care about you, Y/N." She got up off the bed. "I'm going to go get you some food, I'll be right back."
I nodded as she left. My heart was heavy with the thought that my life could never be the same. I could never go back to university or just be a carefree young adult ever again.
A few minutes later I heard the door handle rattle once again. I turned, expecting Dahyun, but instead Yunho moved through the doorway carrying a brimming tray. As the sunlight beamed onto his skin, he became ethereal, almost angelic. He just stood there for a time, staring back at me.
"Yunho, come here." I whispered. He obliged, and carefully placed the tray down on the bedside table before sitting next to me on the bed. He looked at me with those deep brown eyes. I moved my fingers so they grazed over his arm. I could feel the microscopic hairs tickle my fingers tips.
"I need to know that you're real." I explained.
"Why wouldn't I be real?"
"It's just... when I was imprisoned, sometimes I saw things that weren't real." I felt tears pooling in my eyes. "Sometimes I saw you, and when I realized that you weren't real, it... it broke my heart."
He couldn't stand to see me cry. All of a sudden, Yunho seized me in his embrace. He squeezed me as to make sure he wouldn't lose me again. I felt his lips plant a quick kiss on my forehead, as he comfortingly rubbed my back.
"Y/N listen to me carefully. You don't ever have to ask yourself if I'm real, because I'm never going to leave your side again."
"Thank you Yunho..." I mumbled with my face buried in his knit sweater, dampening it with my tears. "I never want to leave you either."
"Good, then we're agreed." He gave me a goofy smile. "Now eat your food. I'm not sure how you managed to lose so much weight in just a few weeks, but you need to regain your strength."
He handed me a spoon and a bowl of soup, being careful not to spill it. The salty smell made my mouth water, although I think anything that wasn't porridge would have had the same effect at this point.
Yunho watched me finish the soup then ordered me to sleep again. I slid under the covers, but I was unable to doze off with him sitting on the side of my bed.
"Yunho" I piped up.
"Yeah?"
"Can you sleep with me?" I asked self-consciously.
I had barely finished my question before he slid under the duvet right next to me. I liked the way that I felt with him spooning me. Small, and safe. His arm rested on the crook of my waist. The heat coming from his body made me drowsy.
The doorknob started rattling again, temporarily bringing me back to full alertness. Mingi popped his head into the room.
"Oh," His face dropped a little, and the disappointment was clear in his voice, "I just wanted to make sure you were doing okay but... I can come back another time."
He turned to leave, but I called back to him. "Wait! Mingi, stay."
He looked apprehensive, glancing at Yunho, then back to me.
I went on. "Mingi, please come here. I missed you."
"Okay..." He murmured. He was waiting for Yunho to say something, but the other man didn't so much as move. He warily climbed under the sheets on my other side so we were face-to-face. Moving his hand across my forehead, he brushed the hair out of my eyes.
"I missed you too Y/N."
