You walked around the castle, having nothing else to do while the boys were out. There were a few paintings hung up on the walls. Some of them undoubtedly created by the artistic skeleton... while others were of Dream and his older brother, Nightmare, before his corruption. You couldn't help but feel bad for the negative skeleton. The fact that he felt as though he had to physically change himself just to show others he wasn't weak made your SOUL ache in sympathy. You couldn't lie, he had looked adorable when he wasn't covered in that black... goop. To be honest, both Dream and Nightmare were an adorable set of skeletons. Ink and Blue were also cute, in their own special ways.

Wait, what?

You shook your head to get rid of the weird thought and continued to wander the hallways, stopping every now and again to gaze in wonder at the paintings. You didn't dare speak, feeling as though there was an ominous force watching you as you walked alone.

'I wonder what the boys are doing?' You ponder as you thought back on how eager they had all been to try and help you. It was pretty charming, you had to admit. But it was also a little weird. You never knew that three skeletons could get so worked up over something as simple as a phone. However, you simply shrugged it off as another one of their weird quirks and circled your way back to the main hall.

What you saw made you freeze.

Nightmare was standing in the middle of the main room, glancing around in distaste. You swiftly moved yourself behind one of the pillars so you wouldn't be spotted and fearfully observed him. He turned towards the pillar you were hiding behind and a grin spread across his face. You almost smacked yourself - of course! This was Nightmare we were talking about, he can sense feelings! But instead of coming towards you like you expected he would do, he snapped his fingers and disappeared.

You came out from behind the pillar, cursing softly under your breath.

What the Hell was that about?!?

Ink and the others came back a few minutes later, grinning victoriously. When they found you trembling in a heap on the ground, however, their pride was immediately replaced with concern.

The trio raced towards you, Ink reaching you first and kneeling in front of you. He gripped your shoulders tightly, hurriedly asking if you were okay. You simply nodded before telling them what - WHO you had seen. The boys were taken aback by this news and enveloped you in a loving group hug, simultaneously promising to keep you safe. You smiled, despite the situation and hugged them all back, happy to know that were willing enough to still protect you.

"Thank you guys... I-I missed you," you confessed weakly. "Not just while you were out... when I was away. I missed having you three always there to help me. You guys really are the best, I don't know what I'd do without you." The sudden praise left the three skeletons immensely flustered and their faces lit up with the bright magical blushes.

"It's no problem (y/n). I'd - we'd do anything to protect you," Ink muttered, closing his eye sockets in content as he felt you hug him a little closer.

You eventually broke off the hug and the trio returned your phone, making you smile and give them all another hug as a thank you before retreating into your room to call your friends and family.

"Yes, I know. It's not going to be for too long. They'll keep me safe, you know they will. Uh-huh. Okay, bye." You hung up and sighed in relief, happy to know that none of your family was going to go hunting for you now. You really owed the boys one. You placed your phone down on the desk and fell backwards onto your bed. You looked back up as you heard gentle laughter emitting from the doorway.

"Does it really take so long to call a few people? You've been in here for like half an hour!" Ink teased a mocking smirk crossing his features as you gave him a blank look."It does in my family," you replied, sitting up to give him your full attention. "Not to mention they all still think you're just some human boys leaving in an apartment complex!"

Ink sniggered at the memory of the story you had made up about them. Since it was pretty obvious your family would freak out if they ever found out you hung out with skeletons in your spare time. It was amazing that they bought it for so many years. Obviously, there were questions and invites to dinners and such that the trio had to dodge but... if it meant being able to hang out with you, they were willing to go through anything.

"What brings you here anyway?" you question, casually leaning back into cushions on your bed. Ink came over and sat beside you, face turning sullen.

"I... just wanted to make sure you were okay. After what happened today," he admitted shyly, adjusting his scarf to calm his nerves. He began to squirm uncomfortably as you fell silent at his questioning. He hesitantly lifted his eye lights to meet your averted ones. "(y-y/n)?"

"That's really sweet Ink," you told him, turning to him with a small smile. He felt something in his chest clench as you lent forward and pecked his cheekbone. "Thank you for checking on me. I'm okay, a little shaken, but okay." You pulled back and giggled as you saw the bright rainbow blush that enveloped his face. He pulled his scarf up to cover it gazing at you with confused yet adoring eye lights.

"I... we... it's just... it's no problem?" he managed to stutter out, voice unusually high and shaky. You giggle again upon hearing it, making him lower his scarf enough to smile at you. "I'm glad you're okay. If I could fee- I-I mean! If I was in that situation... I wouldn't be feeling all that great," he said making you tilt your head at him. You decided to brush it off as you saw the uncertain look that crossed his face and simply resorted to smiling at him.

"Yeah... I'm surprised at myself for being this calm too. But, I can't help but feel safe when all of you are around," you told him gratefully, making his smile widen. His blush faded as he stood back up, making his way back out of the room, bidding you a quick goodbye before leaving.

He clutched the front of his shirt in a balled fist, taking deep unsteady breaths. He couldn't believe he almost told you he couldn't feel. He didn't even know how'd you react if you knew. Would you hate him? Would you think he was lying to you this whole time? Oh God, would you leave him?! But it wasn't his fault! He could...

Ink's breathing slowed down as that familiar emptiness seeped back into his body, ridding his mind of the frantic thoughts.

And yes, I am leaving it there. And yes, reader-chan does not know that Ink is emotionless (not yet anyway Haha, what?) Also, guest star appearance from Nightmare! Shit about to get crazy ;) - Fandom Trash
