The two laughed at they approached Gina's car. Nini was clinging onto Gina's arm because the girl was warmer than her. While Gina actually let her, the touch made her feel electricity but she wouldn't admit that.
Nini took hold of Gina's bags while she opened her trunk and put all the bags in there. Not only had they had a successful day of being with each other and not killing each other but an even more successful shopping trip. Nini didn't really buy much but she bought enough to have a couple of bags on her. As soon as Gina put the bags in the trunk and closed it they made their way around the car.
They stopped in front of the drivers side of the car, with Gina's back facing the door and Nini in front of her. There was a comfortable silence between them and they both could admit that they didn't think they'd spent so much time together. They had both been there since the early afternoon and it was currently 8 pm. They had spent hours together just enjoying each other's presence.
Gina knew that, she was starting to feel something for Nini. But she also hated that she couldn't act on it. Her ex was in town with talks about wanting to kiss her one last time. Her ex best friend made it clear that she couldn't get close to his friends.
Even if Ricky has been trying to make amends with her. There are no amends to be made. She just wanted to move on from the whole situation but she knew she couldn't with Ricky chasing after her friendship and Nini chasing after her heart. Gina wished she could just move again, start over all over again. Away from Nini and Ricky and far from Astrid and her New York fame.
Nini just wanted to win over Gina. She frankly didn't care that Ricky was being an asshole at first or that he wanted to be supportive now. She didn't care about Ricky at all. All she cared about was the girl in front of her. The girl who sported an amazing smile the whole day with her and the girl who wore the hoodie that she had gifted her.
Not to mention Nini had gotten cold earlier in the evening and Gina actually went back to her car to get her soccer hoodie and give it to Nini. It was a little baggy on Nini but only because Gina was so tall compared to her. Plus she definitely liked that the hoodie had Gina's last name in cursive writing on the back. It made it clear that the hoodie belonged to Gina and that she had given it to Nini.
So to Nini this whole day was an amazing win. She didn't expect Gina's sudden change of heart as the day came in an end.
As Nini let go of Gina's hands, she stuffed them in her back pockets and gave Nini an unsettling look. The same look Gina had given her before their little fall out that night in EJ's house. Nini really hoped Gina wouldn't pull that stunt again.
"Look Nini"
Nini didn't let her continue. "Stop. Don't close yourself off. Please"
She practically begged."Nini. Listen to me... we can't do this. Whatever happened today. No one can know about it"
Nini scoffed but this time it hurt more than that night. That other night it was just a feeling they both obviously had. Today though, they had both initiated lingering touches and hand holding.
Nini knew that today was different. It didn't feel like the two getting to know each other but more like a date. Even if they didn't completely know each other Nini knew that she could spend her whole life trying to get to know Gina.
"Why can't no one know Gina! Why is it so bad for you to care about other people!"
"BECAUSE THEY NEVER STAY NINI"
She didn't expect Gina to yell at her. In the middle of a mall parking lot at that.
"They never do Nini and even if they say they care they never actually do. Look it's best if you just forget about me and that this little, whatever it was today, just ends. I can't be with you Nini"
"Can't be with me or can't be friends with me?"
Nini really wanted to know. She wanted to know if Gina didn't like the idea of a relationship or of a friendship.
"Both Nini! I can't do this! Not with you of all people, god. Ricky's like your best friend and Ashlyn is mine. You don't know the connections already there. Ricky made me swear that I wouldn't interact with him or his friends. I keep my word"
Gina's chest popped out a little bit. With a little bit of pride knowing she can keep her word.
"Then look me in the eyes right now Porter. Look me in the eyes and tell me that you didn't feel a connection between the two of us this whole day. And that this hand holding didn't give you butterflies and make you feel nervous. Gina, why can't you see i'm fucking crazy about you! More than you'll ever know"
Nini was frustrated. How much did she have to do to show Gina that she truly cared for her. What else? Be there for her? Give her an emotional gift? She had done all of those.
Gina sighed. She didn't want to hurt this girl. Because she couldn't lie, she did care about her now. More than she wanted to admit and more than she'll ever admit to anyone that knows her. Gina couldn't die to herself but she could lie to Nini. She knew that if she hurt Nini's feelings there was a better chance that Nini would want nothing to do with her. So she looked up at the girl and looked her straight in her eyes.
"I do not care about you. I didn't feel anything today. You were just someone that was there at the moment and just the moment. What else do you want me to say? That I like you! You're hilarious if you think that. And for the record you literally can't be crazy about me. You don't know me and you'll never know me."
Nini knew this was all part of Gina's front that she put up. Vanna had warned her about it long before the plan was in full motion. She expected Gina to feed her harsh words and she prepared but she didn't expect it to hurt as much as it did.
"Fuck you Porter"
She walked away with tears in her eyes but not because she was extremely hurt. But because she really didn't know what else to do. Nini really thought she should ignore the rest of the plan but she knew what Vanna had told her. She couldn't, so as she got into her car she wiped her tears and got ready to continue fighting for Gina Porter.
