The game wasn't one that the East High Leopards were worried about. They knew they were good and most importantly Gina knew she was good.Around the 44th minute, Gina broke away from the defense at mid field. She ran the rest of the way knowing it was only her and the other schools goal keeper. She managed to sneak looks behind her and to the side of her. Laurie and Carter were there too but she knew she couldn't pass it. If she hadn't broken away she'd be considered offsides, so she knew that Laurie and Carter were definitely offsides.
Gina knew that she started this and she had to finish it. She could tell that the fourth official was giving two extra minutes of stoppage time. Just enough for her to score this goal and possibly let the other team restart.
When Gina was inside the eighteenth, she maneuvered the ball so it would go into the air. Laurie thought she was gonna pull a volley but as soon as she saw the goalkeeper step off her line she knew Gina was going in a different direction.
As soon as the other schools keeper was close enough Gina jumped and met the ball, sending it flying into the lower right side of the goal. The keeper tried to move back and stop it, but she only got a touch in that secured the ball inside the goal.
Gina's header was flawless.
When she landed back down on the grass field the fourth official blew her whistle signaling the end of the first half. Soon enough Laurie and Carter threw themselves on top of her, as she laughed and basked in the replay of her goal.
The time was up 4-3, thanks to her.
The bleachers were still rowdy thanks to her goal as she finally stood up and watched as the other team retrieved towards the guest locker room. She smiled as Laurie put her arm around her and pulled her in close. The captain was proud of Gina, she had grown to love Gina and she couldn't wait to see her succeed.
Gina looked up from Laurie's embrace and looked towards the bleachers, where she met Nini's eyes and she sent her a loving smile. Gina sent one back and a small wave.
They pair of soccer players quickly made their way off of the field and let the cheerleaders do their thing during halftime but not before they were stopped by non other than Ricky Bowen.
The cheerleaders had stopped what they were doing because Ricky had taken the microphone from the Cheer captain.
"You think you're so great huh"
Laurie spun around and that made Gina spin too as they were still in an embrace. Laurie was just talking to Gina about how proud she was.
When they turned to see Ricky, Laurie's whole demeanor changed. Everyone knew Gina didn't get along with him, especially after a few months ago he decided to try to apologize to Gina. Very, very publicly.
Gina pointed at herself and Ricky nodded.
"What the hell do you think I did now?"At this point, the crowd in the bleachers was still paying attention and one of the cheerleaders ran to Gina with another microphone. Thinking that this was somehow planned.
"You're playing with my friends feelings and I don't appreciate that. So i'm calling you out"
Gina scoffed and Laurie rolled her eyes.
"What are you calling me out on exactly?"
Gina had a smug look on her face. She knew she couldn't let Ricky get to her."Cause here's the thing Bowen. You have a boyfriend who you say you love but constantly make his life hard by going after someone he considers his little sister. So tell me who's really playing around here"
