The day had come. Gina was asking Nini to be her date to the Spring Formal today. She had gotten both her and Nini permission to skip their first and second period classes just so she could ask the girl.
Her big plan was to take Nini to IHOP for breakfast. It was supposed to be a dinner but Gina figured that she could do breakfast and then enjoy the rest of the day, knowing that Nini was her date.
The two would have breakfast and then Gina would drive them to this really cute spot that Nini had discovered years before. The boys had already decorated it with fairy lights and Ricky had told Gina what song Nini wanted to hear before that special someone asked her.
Gina had no idea that Nini was so simple. But simple in the most beautiful way possible. Because when she was memorizing the lyrics and chords to play she realized that Nini had this planned out and she really didn't mind who it was from. Or if it actually happened or not. Nini just wanted someone to spend time with and then at the least expected moment, they asked the big question.
Gina loved Nini's simplicity. Because although some of the things Nini wanted were black and white, Nini was the whole rainbow. She intensified the colors and their brightness. Nini made Gina be a little less blind to the hidden beauty there was in the obvious.
That's why Nini had picked a simple meal and then being asked. Because she liked knowing where things were heading but loved to see them her played out.
"Shouldn't we be at school Gi?"
The two were already seated and Gina already had a huge smile on her face.
"We're good does first and second. And maybe third, Miss Jenn said she'd cover for you and I"
Nini just laughed at the girl. She couldn't believe that Gina went the extra mile of getting out of school just so they could sit and eat breakfast together.
Soon enough the two were engulfed in a deep conversation that neither of them knew the end of. They just chatted, about anything and everything. And as time slowly passed and they joked and laughed Gina got even more nervous.
Her leg started slowly shaking and Nini noticed. She placed her own leg next to Gina's in hopes of calming the girl down. Gina smiled at the small act of affection between the two and they continued talking. As if below the table their legs weren't tangled.
Beside them was the same elderly lady whom Nini had tended to a couple of nights before. She sat with her own partner and they look noticed the obvious sparks coming off of Nini and Gina. To them it was beautiful to see two young souls so in love.
Nini and Gina were of course oblivious to their presence because they were too focused on one another. It was like that every time they were together, they forgot about the world around them.
Gina only knew that it was time for them to start heading to the spot when her Apple watch went off with a reminder. Red already knew the girl so he had made sure to set reminders about when to leave and the small details. Gina silently thanked the boy because otherwise they really would've stayed in IHOP the whole morning.
Nini didn't expect that when she asked for the check the waitress already told her it was covered. She hadn't realized that Gina had long given her card to the waitress do charge as they ate. She had been that distracted but she turned to laugh with the girl who held a piece of her heart. She complained that they should've paid the check together but Gina quickly shut her up by thanking the waitress and grabbing Nini's hand. Quickly leaving the restaurant.
As they were in the parking lot, Nini started humming along to the song Gina had long sent her. Gina smiled and seeing as she already held Nini's hand she twirled her until the two ultimately crashed into the side of Gina's car.
