"You ready baby? You look so pretty," Nadira cooed, looking Nayeli over.
Today was an extremely important performance for her. Since she was young she dreamed of dancing lead in Swan Lake. She'd been to see the ballet at least three times in her life and, her mom's ballet company got the invitation to perform it at Fox Theater in Atlanta.
She worked hard along with the other dancing diamonds for tryouts and for practice up until she left for college. The choreographer and his assistant both fell in love with Nayeli's dancing and chose her to dance the lead of Odette, the Swan Queen.
She was more than excited, as it had been a dream of hers since she could remember. She practiced tirelessly, even at school. When she wasn't in class or at cheer practice, she was in the dance studio till late practicing.
She was very ready for this.
Her whole family came out to see her, both sides. They took up most of then front row, and we're excited to see her perform. She was forcing her uncles to record it so she could show Armani and everyone else when she got to New Orleans in two days.
"Thank you, mommy. I'm ready," Nai nodded. After seeing Ameera on Christmas Eve, she appreciated her real mom even more than she already did. Her nurturing spirit really helped her grow as a child, she was thankful for her.
She had yet to tell Armani what happened, simply because she needed time to decompress from it before she retold the story. She would see him soon, so she figured she'd just tell him then.
She couldn't wait to see him, actually. It'd only been a week and she missed him like nobody's business. She talked everyone's ears off about him at home, and she knew they were all sick and tired of her. Especially her dad, who always had to say something smart when she brought him up. It was hilarious to him.
She checked her phone one more time before she had to get ready to go on stage and she smiled, seeing texts from all her friends who were out of town, wishing her good luck. She responded to them all in the group chat and went to respond to Armani's last.
baby🤞🏾: good luck mi amor. i know you gonna go out there and kill that shit, I can't wait to see it, and see you 💕 you're gonna be great baby. Remember, no stress. You got this mami.
: thank you so much babe 💞💞 i can't wait to see you either.
Her name was called and she squeezed her mother tightly.
"Good luck, my baby," she spoke.
"Thank you mama," she smiled, holding her two hands briefly before running off, in her fancy ballet slippers.
She made it to the stage with the rest of the girls, who all huddled together for a quick prayer, like they usually did before a performance and then got in position for the performance of a lifetime.
