"I hate to admit it, but I'll miss you Matt," I disclosed, walking beside one of my most trusted companions - soon to be ex-boss, but it never seemed that way, we were close friends. He'd made a hefty profit from selling his hotel so he could focus on raising his newborn, and because I was his personal assistant, I wasn't needed there anymore. The change was so momentous it felt like the end of an era.

"Jesus Lana don't get all soppy on me or I'll take your glowing report away from the Beaumont."

"No, you monster!" I yelped, shoving him playfully. He laughed brightly, nearly spilling his coffee and creasing the corners of his eyes in the falling sun. The Beaumont was an insanely priced and luxurious hotel that he'd kindly passed my resumé to as a favour, because he happened to personally know the owner.

"You better have made me sound like a god in that report or my career is over," I sighed.

"Oh stop, you were the best personal assistant ever, you played all your strengths for my benefit, what more could I want?"

"I don't know Matt, what if they don't want me? It's the most esteemed hotel in New York, and no offence, but your hotel is like a Motel 6 in comparison."

Now it was his turn to shove me, but I dodged as always, giggling and continuing to stroll along the pavement whilst sipping on my iced coffee.

"Offence taken! My hotel is big enough to be known by the Beaumont hotel owner herself," he boasted, sticking his nose up.
