Dimitri POV
"Hey cousin," Adrian called out as I walked through my bedroom door.
"Why are you lying on my bed?" I asked as I closed my door, irritated.
While I owed Adrian big time for defending me in the hearing, the guy still vexed me.
"So what happened with Thorne? Did he tell you about your new charge or allocation?" Adrian asked as he rolled on to his side. "Lissa was pissed when Thorne wouldn't let her in the meeting this morning. She plans to appeal."
Walking towards Adrian, I swiped the vodka bottle from his hand and took two deep swigs. Handing the bottle back, I sat on the edge of my desk.
"It highly confidential and I haven't been given all the details yet, so I can't tell you much. I'm not getting a charge, it's more of a mission. Sounds like I will be on the road for months. I I leave for court in three days," I answered, as I looked out of the window.
"The day of Rose's funeral." Adrian sadly added, to which I nodded.
It is 7:00pm, the beginning of the Moroi day, the setting sun casting a pretty red haze across the sky. I wanted to kick Adrian out and watch the sunset until I fell asleep but I doubt I would get any rest. So instead I planned to sit here and enjoy the sun on my face for a few minutes. Not feeling anything or thinking about anything.
"You truly loved her." It was a statement not a question, so I didn't feel the need to respond.
"She loved you too, I could see it. Her aura would grow and shine so bright when she saw you, and you were the same." He continued, taking another sip of vodka.
I knew she loved me as much as I loved her. I've known for a long time, longer than I originally realised. The words that have haunted me since leaving court flooded my mind again. 'You will lose what you value the most, so treasure it while you still can.' I feel foolish for denying us our love for so long. Now I've lost her.
"I'm sorry, for everything. I'm sorry you lost Rose, I'm sorry you have to hide that you are hurting. And I'm sorry for pursuing Rose, even though I already knew she was yours." Adrian apologized, leaning forward and offering me the bottle.
"Thanks," I muttered, unsure on what else to say.
Taking a quick shot, I stared at the bottle within my hands, fighting to hold back the tears that threatening to fall. If Adrian noticed the tears brimming around my eyes he didn't mention it.
"Lissa wanted me to bring you to her dorm at 12:30. She is arranging Rose's funeral and she thinks you should be there." Adrian stated tentatively, accepting the bottle back.
"I don't think that's a good idea. Janine won't want me there." And I can't promise I wouldn't rip her head off if she acted up.
"Lissa said you would say something like that. So she told me to tell you; 'arranging someone's funeral is the last act of kindness you can do for that person.' and she promises to keep Janine in line." Adrian said before he drained the rest of the bottle. "If you aren't there by 12:35, she will come get you. She thinks it will help give you closure." He added with a sympathetic strug.
"I don't know." I muttered, just to fill the awkward silence.
"Do you know what you need?" Adrian randomly asked as he rolled onto his back, placing one arm behind his head.
"What?" I'm starting to lose my patience with the Moroi.
"A MasterSob."
"A what?" I regretted asking the question as soon as it left my lips. I just wanted him to leave now.
