Dimitri POV
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Opening my eyes, I felt a wave of annoyance at whoever was continuously knocking at my door. They are interrupting my memories of Roza that I was reliving in my mind.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
I closed my eyes again. The only time I have left my bed, since Dr. Olendzki ordered me to bed rest, was to visit the bathroom or to collect the food parcels that are being sent to my door. Despite being told that I have; four fractured ribs, a cracked sternum and a badly bruised shoulder blade, the physical pain was nothing, compared to my broken heart.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
My unwanted guest was now pounding on my door. Letting out a irritated sigh, I push myself off my bed and padded bare foot to the door. Uncaring that I was only wearing sweat pants, I yanked the door open.
"Yes?" I didn't even try to hide the vexation in my voice.
Looking down, I saw the last person I expected to be knocking at my door. Princess Vasilisa, flanked by Christian Ozera and Adrian Ivashkov.
Vasilisa looked nearly as bad as I felt. Her green eyes were red, swollen and framed with dark circles, they stood out against her paler then pale skin. She looked so tired, I wondered if, like me, she hasn't slept since that night.
"Princess, My Lords," I said, slightly bowing my head to the Princess.
"Guardian Belikov, may we come in?" Vasilisa croaked, clearly she has been crying until recently.
"Sure" I replied, standing to the side to allow the Royals to enter my room.
Shutting the door behind them, I turned to face my guests. Vasilisa was sitting in my desk chair, with Christian leaning against the desk behind her, arms crossed. Adrian walked straight to my window, pushing it open with one hand while pulling out a cigarette with his other.
"Don't smoke in here Ivashkov." I ordered as swiped my hoody from the side table and pulled it over my head.
With a defiant look, Adrian took a single toke and flicked his freshly lit cigarette out the window, blowing the smoke after it. Brushing his hands on his thighs he looked at Vasilisa expectantly. Sitting on the edge of my bed, I too, looked at Vasilisa waiting for her to start whatever this is.
She open and closed her mouth a few times as thich tears started to flow down her face. Shaking her head slightly, she turned to Christan with pleading eyes. Uncrossing his arms, he placed a hand in her shoulder, bringing his gaze to met mine.
"We know." He simply said.
"Know what?" I replied, they could be referring to a mountain of things.
"About you and Rose."
I flinched at the sound of her name, my heart burning in my chest. Holding Christian's gaze, I waited for him to continue in silence. I will not deny the love I shared with Roza, but I will not offer up any information until I found out what they already knew. While the fear of discovery no longer plagued me, I still wanted to protect Rose's reputation and memory.
"That you and Rose were lovers." Christian further explained. "Adrian told us."
Again I kept quite, after all, he is still yet to ask me a question.
"Do you deny it?" A angry Vasilisa whispered.
"No." I simply replied. I would never deny it, damned be the consequences.
