Where we belong. Chapter 34

Rose POV

He is here! I feel so safe and warm wrapped in Dimitri's arms, like this is the one place I truly belong. We were wrapped around one another, sat on the overly stuffed sofa in Abe's library watching the rain that had just started to pour. I'm not normally a fan of rain but the droplets pattering against the window added to the happy and relaxed atmosphere of the room.

After declaring our love and reuniting of our souls with sweet kisses, Dimitri had pulled me onto his lap, where we were just happy to sit in the other's presence.

Dimitri was softly rubbing his thumb up and down my arm and was occasionally pressing kisses on my hair and forehead. I had my ear pressed against his chest, happily listening to his steady heart beat and smelling in his scent. It was intoxicating. I briefly wished we weren't in my father's library, otherwise we would be doing a lot more than cuddling.

"So." Dimitri finally said, breaking the silence. "What do you think of Russia?"

"I haven't seen much of it." I reply snuggling in closer. "But I like it. St Basils is great and I love Vika. She is hilarious."

I could feel his smile when he drop a kiss on my neck, just below my ear.

"I always thought you two would get along." He chuckled.

"Mmmm." I muttered. "We certainly bonded over the last few days."

Bonded we did. When I told Vika that her brother was returning to Russia she was besides herself in glee. She ended up demanding to know every detail of Dimitri and mine relationship for teasing ammo. Of course I gave her the PG version but I still found parts of our complex love story embarrassing when telling it to my lover's sister.

That embarrassment peaked when I had to go to Vika's dorm and beg her to get me some condoms. At first she was confused why I was asking for them, we all know Dhampir can't reproduce with one another. Since finding out that I could fall pregnant to a Dhampir, I haven't had a opportunity to seek out contraception. Tatiana wanted to breed me and there was no way I was going to have Claxton interpret the 'birds and the bees' conversation with the St. Basils's school nurse. So I had to explain to Vika that I was shadowed kissed, the side effects of that and, to her amusement, that Dimitri and I needed to take precautions.

So turning a blind eye that Vika had a box of condoms stashed in her room, I hid them in the jacket I was 'borrowing'. I managed to smuggle them back to my room and stored safely in my suitcase with Claxon being non the wiser.

"She is really excited about seeing you!" I smile up at him. "I had to bribe her with my chocolate donut to stop her from calling your mama."

"Not your chocolate donut!" He teased me. "Surly nothing is worth that!"

"Oh shut up!" I said, poking him in the ribs and rolling my eyes.

We sat in silence for another couple of minutes when a question popped into my mind.

"I was on the phone to Lissa before you arrived." I stated tentatively.

"I know." He replied.

"About Tasha." I felt his body stiffen behind me and I swear I heard him mutter fool under his breath. "Lissa said you went to visit her before you left."

"I did." He admitted warily.

"It's ok Comrade. I might not be her biggest fan but she still your friend." I lied. I couldn't stand the bitch or the ways she hovers around him. But I wasn't going to tell him who he could be friends with. I mean, how much of a threat was she now being in prison. "How was she?"
