Dimitri POV

I feel restless and finding it pointless just lying in this bed if sleep is evading me. The world makes no sense to me right now. The love of my life is back from the dead, one of my best friends was arrested for treason last night and there is a army of Strigoi planing to over throw the Moroi Throne.

It's probably the sleep deprivation, but I feel like my loyalties are pulling me in three different directions. Who do I attend to first? My love, my friend or my duty?

If I listened to my heart, I would hop on the next flight to Russia to be with Rose without a second thought. If I listened to logic, Rose was safe and is currently not in any danger. My friend Tasha, on the other hand is every much in immediate danger. The Council may very likely order for her execution for her attempt to assassinate Tatiana.

The bloody fool! What was she thinking! I have always known she was passionate about her political views but I never thought she would try to assassinate someone. As I pictured Tasha trying to off the Queen I felt anger build towards my idiotic friend. There wasn't much I could do for her apart from offer her my support if she goes to trial.

And then there was the matter of the approaching Strigoi army and that was pretty much just a massive shitshow. While I wasn't feeling much love towards Tatiana right now, I wouldn't stand by and watch thousands of innocent people be slaughtered. There was going to be a battle, a big one, and I know I will be a part of it. That though itself terrifies me but I can't let the fear distract me at the moment, so I push the fear aside.

Nope. I'm not going to be able to sleep. Looking at my alarm clock I let out a groan. I have four hours until I need to report to Croft for my debrief.
Slipping out of bed, I decided a little cardio would help clear my mind.

After stretching my muscles a little, I dropped to the floor to complete 100, Press ups, Sit ups, Burpees and Squats. Satisfied that I could feel the familiar ache in my thighs, I finished my workout with 20 minutes of Tai Chi.

I headed downstairs on the hunt for food after possibly the best shower I have ever had. The thing had four hydro massage jets, steam generator and a wooden seat. I have never been so clean in my life. Man, the other half live well, if that was the bathroom for guests I can only wonder what the Dragomir master ensuite was like.

"Morning Guardian Belikov." I hadn't expected to see Christian sitting at the breakfast bar.

"Oh! Morning Lord Ozera." I replied.

"It's Christian, please."

"Christian." The poor kid looked miserable. "Want something to eat?"

"Sure."

Switching on the coffee pot, I started to rummage around the cupboards in search for what I needed to make cheese on toast. Mama always made me and my sister's cheese on toast when one of us was upset about something, it was our comfort food.

Placing a plate in front of Christian, I sat next to him as we ate in silence. He didn't speak until I stood to refill my coffee cup.

"Why did she do it? Tasha."

"I don't know. She has always been passionate about her beliefs but I didn't think she was capable of murder." I replied gently.

Christian gave me a strange calculating look before sipping his coffee.

"You know my aunt pretty well. How did you meet? It never occurred to me to ask before."

I wasn't expecting him to ask me this and for some reason it made me shift uncomfortably in my seat.
