The cafe that I was in was small, with simple acoustic music playing over the speakers. I was leaning on the table scrolling through Instagram and occasionally glancing up at the time. She was five minutes late. But what could I expect from Jessica? She was notorious for being tardy. The chime of the door signals another person has entered the cafe, and to my surprise it was Jesseca. I was not expecting her for another 5 minutes based on her previous late patterns.

"I'm really sorry Sar," she says sliding into the seat.

"I knew you would be late Jess, I know you too well," I say, sliding her a chocolate mocha with coconut milk. It was her favorite drink that I had ordered for her while I waited.

"You do know me well," she laughs, taking an exaggerated sip from her drink as I sip on my iced coffee.

"So is there any new gossip that I've missed?" I ask her.

"Really not much. You know how the beginning of summer is, everyone is trying to get into their summer groove. Becky got a job, meaning she has to have an off-day or not be with her boyfriend if we want her to drive us," and as she says this, I know how much this will affect summer plans. Becky is the one with her own car, meaning we don't have to ask our parents to use theirs or risk having anyone else take the car when we need it. She is always the one to drive. "Lana has a new boy, of course. He's some rich boy that goes to the rich school... What's it called?"

"Phillips Academy?" I try to help her. Phillips Academy was an all-boys private school in this area, and only the super-rich were able to send their kids there. Part of the school was boarding so kids from all over came to study there. Not that the girls in my town were complaining. Rich, hot boys with accents? Cue the drooling.

"Yeah, that's the one. Anyways, he's SUPER loaded and buys her so much. Other than that, nothing else has happened. We have really only done two things as a group this summer. I have cleaned my room and that's about as exciting as it gets." she tells me with a dramatic sigh. "But enough about my boring ass life, girl," she says giving me a look telling me I need to start spilling my trip stories.

"Well, Hawaii was interesting," I say, preparing myself to tell the whole story. Part of me ached when telling her about Jason. How kind he was and how it all went downhill. Part of me misses him, the way he made me feel, and how I felt so important. I told her about everything, not sparing any details. But the sadness I felt was soon replaced with anger as I got to the part of the story that made me so mad. When he wouldn't take no as an answer. And for that, he lost all my trust. Jessica nodded along with me, voicing her opinion when necessary. I then proceed to tell her about Ethan.

"So this guy who you happen to call just kept talking. No 'sorry wrong number'?"

"Yeah, basically,"

"No one ever does that,"

"Yeah, I know,"

"Well, that's a lot of information you just hit me with. I'm glad you're over Jason though. I agree things were moving really fast for you guys and I'm happy he showed his true colours before more damage was done. Like, it's not like this happened after dating for months on end, you know?"

"Yeah, I'm glad I can close this chapter of my life and move on," I say with a sigh.

"So... this Ethan boy?" she says, wiggling her eyebrows.

"It's not like that!" I say sternly, quickly glancing at my phone that had just gone off with a notification. It was from Ethan, and I quickly went to put my phone away when my action was intercepted by Jessica grabbing it from my hands.

"OMG Ethan just texted you!"

"Jessica stop!" I cried as I reached for my phone, only to have her pull it farther away. "Jessica please, we are only friends! He is just a nice guy who I like talking to," I say.

"Okay, and I'm married to Shawn Mendez," she says, giving my phone back.

"Please don't make this bigger than it is," I ask, "Don't go around to the girls telling them I'm talking to a boy, okay?"

"Okay, okay, I won't say anything until my suspicions are confirmed," she says with a smirk.

"Jessica! Nooooo," I cry.

"Fine whatever," she says, crossing her arms over her chest. "You want to get out of here? I'm done and need to be home for lunch," she says. Both of us get up and walk out the door. I give her a hug and start to walk home. My house was only a five-minute walk from the cafe. I slide my phone out of my pocket and read the text Ethan sent me.

E: So you're O-bombing me now? The text reads.

I'm not, I text back, I just went to bed and didn't look at my phone, I type. Although, I wasn't able to send it because my phone fell out of my hands as I crashed straight into a person walking the other direction. I look to the person and see a boy around my age with wavy black hair, messily thrown over his forehead to cover up to his eyebrows. He was wearing a white t-shirt with black jeans. His jaw was defined as well as the muscles on his arms I could see through his shirt. When I looked up I was met with strikingly blue eyes and a smirk.

I pull my eyes away from his and onto the two phones that lay on the ground.

"I'm so sorry, I exclaimed, furiously blushing as I pick up the two phones. "This was probably my fault," I say swiping a piece of my hair behind my ear nervously. "I was looking at my phone while walking and I should have been paying attention."

"Don't worry about it," he says with a smile. I quickly look at our phones, quickly checking for any scratches, and thankfully both phones went unscathed. I hand his phone back apologizing again while looking to see that my text to Ethan still hasn't sent.

I quickly press the send button as I start to walk away. I slide my phone into my back pocket to get rid of the distraction so I don't bump into anyone else, and as I take a step away from the boy I hear his phone chime. I glance back at him to see his head down, typing on his phone. Maybe it wasn't completely my fault we bumped into each other -- he looks distracted too.
