The days go by, and soon enough it is Saturday. Today is the day I'm going to meet Ethan. I excitedly get ready, eager to get to see him. I will finally be able to put a face to the name and to the voice. I run down the stairs, eager to get the day started.
With all this excitement pent up, I decided that it would be good for me to go for a run to blow off some steam before meeting him. Maybe then I would be calmer and less nervous to meet this boy. So, I throw on my running clothes and am off to the trails near my house.
Running the trails is calming, and at this time of day, the morning air is brisk. The sun is up, but not many people are out because it's a Saturday. The birds' song carries me to the nearby park. I slow my run to a walk, walking through the park and onto the side of the road. I decided that I want to get a coffee on my way home, meaning the rest of my run will be done on the side of the dirt road.
Running on this road was not a problem as there were not many cars. I was able to let my mind wander, eventually thinking of Ethan. A loud sound interrupts my thoughts, and suddenly, I'm airborne, and for a second, I feel like I'm flying. The sound of tires screeching and gravel crunching fills my aching head, and my vision is white with pain. What just happened? Where am I?
As I roll onto my side, I start to gather my scattered thoughts. I roll back onto my back as someone hovers over me, blocking the blinding sunlight. Their face out of focus in my blurry vision. Another figure joins them, both looking at me. Why are they looking at me? Their mouths start moving, but I can barely hear them over the ringing in my ears.
"I didn't know she was there!"
"Just call 911."
"I swear I didn't see her!"
"CALL 911."
Why are they yelling? I should go stop their fighting. Getting up is hard. I don't feel very good, and everything hurts. I'm pushed back onto the ground by the stranger who was yelling.
"Hey, it's okay, help is coming. Let's stay calm and not move. Can you do that for me?" he asks and I nod my head, not really listening to what he is saying. I look to my left and see car tires near my head, I shift my eyes to look around me and see a small crowd of people around me.
I hear sirens in the distance and a drilling sound that makes me want to close my eyes and shied away from it high pitch screaming, I hear a lot of voices, a lot of commotion, I feel myself being lifted onto a softer platform and then my vision goes dark.

I awake to bright light and beeping in my ear. Where am I? I squint my eyes open and see my mom and dad.
"Hi baby," My mom says and starts to stroke my hair.
"Mom?" I ask, confused.
"Hey, sweetheart,"' my father steps beside her into my vision.
"Where am I?"
"You're in the hospital baby, you were in an accident. Someone hit you with their car on your run this morning. You have a slight concussion, a broken foot, and two fractured ribs."
"Oh..." I responded, not really knowing what to reply with. I can remember the crash and how hazy everything was. "What happened to the guy who hit me?" I asked.
"He's with the police for questioning right now, why don't you get some sleep, okay?" my mom says, and I simply nod, closing my eyes.
"Do you think we should press charges?" I hear my mom ask, to whom I can only assume is my father.
"I think we need to," he replies, "the man was driving high and hit our daughter who did nothing wrong."
"We will have to talk to Sara in the morning, but I think you're right"
