taehyung and jeongguk stumble into their dorm, the younger of the two heavily intoxicated after the bottles of soju that the duo had consumed as a celebration of midterms. "you wanna know something strange hyung?" jeongguk lays down on the couch, watching taehyung organize around.

"what is it?"

"you know how i had money due? well, someone paid it for me. isn't that strange? who has that much money laying around?" taehyung freezes, discarding of his jacket slowly.

he clears his throat, "i'm sure they had good intentions. at least you'll be able to stay at the uni."

"i don't need rich jerks paying for me. have i ever told you that tae? how much i hate the wealthy? not because i'm jealous, no, but because they think they can take whatever they want," jeongguk sits up, stretching out his arms.

taehyung looks down at his shoes, still not facing the younger. "they're not all like that gguk, you can't hate them all—"

"yes i can. i've never met a selfless wealthy person. you know, that's why my older sister died. because of some asshole that thought he was too good. . ."

taehyung remains quiet, too shocked at the sudden revelation. "jeongguk, you don't know what you're saying, you're drunk," taehyung walks towards him and offers him a hand.

jeongguk brushes it off, "no, i'm being honest. i hate them tae, i want them all to die. i'd kill one, just one."

taehyung felt like crying. after years of being alone, finding jeongguk was like a miracle. their friendship was very secretive, but that was at taehyung's request. he didn't want jeongguk to fall into the same label he had. jeongguk was popular, handsome, and did overall good in his classes. but now, hearing those words coming out of his friends mouth, broke his heart.

he had hidden all his brand clothes, accessories, in hopes of the younger not finding them. taehyung has been lying to jeongguk, hiding his true self in fear of a prejudice that was now true. if jeongguk found out, he would become like the rest. and maybe it was inevitable, because jeongguk already hated the real taehyung without even knowing.

"gguk. . . don't say that. please don't say that, it's not you," taehyung whispers, shaking his head.

jeongguk takes taehyung's hand and pulls him in between his legs, "don't worry, you're not like them. you're perfect you know? that's why i like you, you're honest and you don't keep secrets from me."

oh jeongguk, i'm so sorry.

two days later

when jeongguk reads the name of the depositor, his blood runs cold. he rereads and rubs his eyes over and over, making sure he isn't seeing wrong. kim taehyung is written in bold letters across the paper. he runs a hand over his face, staring at the wall in front of his desk.

taehyung was in class, he wouldn't be coming home for another half an hour. what the hell are you hiding from me taehyung. crossing into the other side of the dorm, jeongguk opens the latter's drawers, looking through the stack of papers neatly piled in there. he was the opposite of jeongguk, he was neat and organized while the raven haired was messy.

jeongguk opens up the closet, rummaging through the piles of clothing until he reaches the very back. there's a large box that's covered by a blanket. jeongguk feels bad for invading taehyung's privacy, but his mind was cloudy and there's a nasty feeling in his gut as he takes the box out and lays it on the bed.

he hesitates once his fingers lift up the cover, but he proceeds anyways. inside, are folded shirts. jeongguk frowns, taking one out and examining it. it feels expensive, and when he sees the brand name, he drops it. another shirt is taken out, this one with a different expensive name brand. he takes them all out until he reaches the jewelry that's scattered about. and by the feel of the watches and necklaces and rings, jeongguk comes to a conclusion that's reinforced when he finds the multiple credit cards.

taehyung is just like them.

"hey gguk, class ended early. did you still wanna go to the market? i know it's pretty late—" taehyung stops midway when he sees jeongguk holding his put away items.

he feels his stomach drop when he looks at jeongguk's expression. the younger looks disgusted as he holds a shirt in his hand. "gguk—"

"don't fucking call me that," jeongguk throws the shirt at taehyung, catching the older off guard. "you're one of them, you've been paying off my debts like i'm some sort of beggar. is that what you think of me as?" his voice grows cold, and it doesn't need to be loud to hurt.

taehyung approaches him, "no, no, jeongguk that's not it. please let me explain."

jeongguk pushes taehyung harshly, causing the older to stumble back into the wall. "you're not going to explain shit to me you fag. you're the second worst person there is, you don't deserve shit."

taehyung can't contain his tears. hearing jeongguk say those things breaks him. "i'm sorry," he cries, not being able to say anything else.

"you're pathetic. did you have fun seeing me struggle? that's why you were so persistent in telling me to apply for the kim scholarship. it's your fucking parents isn't it? were you gonna tell them to give it to me? because everything is so easy for you rich people huh?" jeongguk slams his hand on the wall next to taehyung's face.

"please don't hit me!" taehyung shields himself from the hit that never comes.

jeongguk freezes, realizing how out of control his temper had gone. it brought him back the memory of the first night he met taehyung, how the older was getting beat by other students. jeongguk pulls himself back, and he wants to apologize, fuck he wants to apologize so bad but his ego is bigger.

so he leaves. he leaves like everyone in taehyung's life.

a/n this was super long i apologize. buuut basically this is how much jeongguk hates the wealthy, and well, his reasoning. so yeah, the death of jeongguk's sister is what triggered his rage.
