when taehyung wakes up, jeongguk is still fast asleep next to him. the younger is face down on the pillow, a habit that had always been with him. not wanting to wake him up, the mint haired boy slides slowly out of the bed, slipping on his shoes once he's at the edge of the bed.
he still feels a bit shaky, but he's really hungry. and he still hasn't explored the large house that they've been in for a couple of days now. taehyung glances back at the sleeping boy before he steps out into the hallway, gently closing the door behind him.
the halls remind him of his own house, and how overly decorated every turn and corner was with expensive items. taehyung sends a voice mail to his mothers phone every day, but he still hasn't had luck in getting a response. whatever is holding his mother back must be important for her to not reply.
the grand staircase astonishes taehyung. the stairs are made from glass, and there's a massive chandelier that hangs from the ceiling, twinkling crystals that reflect on the shiny floors. whoever must've owned this grand house had to have been filthy rich. the kitchen is extravagant, with ceiling lights that resemble crystals and smooth marble countertops.
taehyung takes out a plate and scavenges through the fridge, pulling out a bowl of rice and what looks like slices of cooked meat. after preparing his meal, he sits at the island and digs in. as he eats, footsteps approach until a tall, bulky male enters the kitchen.
"hey," he says nonchalantly, opening a box of cereal and pouring himself a bowl.
taehyung takes five seconds to realize the man is talking to him, "oh, hi."
he forgets that he's not in college anymore. no one here knows him, no one knows about his family except for jeon. "son hyunwoo," he extends his hand out for taehyung to shake.
taehyung shakes it and bows his head, "i'm k– jeon taehyung."
hyunwoo sits down next to taehyung. "so how did you end up here? you were with the new group right?
taehyung is ecstatic that someone has genuine interest in conversing with him. "yeah. i'm actually with someone, they've been helping me out. i don't think i'm much help to them but, here i am."
hyunwoo laughs, "well you're alive. that's all that matters."
with a nod, taehyung smiles to himself. they dive deeper into conversation, and taehyung finds that hyunwoo is like a bear, all tough on the outside but soft on the inside. he's managed to survive with his group of friends, but they've had some losses. hyunwoo is awkward, but it doesn't stop him from saying flirty remarks that make taehyung's cheeks burn red.
taehyung is too caught up laughing that he doesn't notice jeongguk walk in and stare at their interaction. and when jeongguk sees taehyung laughing with the male, something inside of him stirs.
"oh, jeongguk."
hyunwoo looks up at jeon, "is this the person you're with?"
"we're cousins."
taehyung looks down at his lap, feeling upset? hell, he has nothin to be upset about yet there he is feeling like a rope is being squeezed around his neck. "oh, good. then you won't mind if i take taehyung for a walk right?"
at that, taehyung looks up at hyunwoo, and then at jeongguk who's jaw has clenched together and a thick vein protrudes from his neck. "i don't think it's very safe, the gate hasn't been put up," jeongguk leans against the frame of the entrance.
"he'll be perfectly fine with me, i'll carry my gun. and now that i remember, i don't need to ask you. taehyung, do you wanna go for a walk?" hyunwoo turns his attention to him, and taehyung feels like he's about to do something he shouldn't be doing.
but he nods nonetheless.
