jeongguk has taehyung's camera in hand, zooming into the hoard of zombies that lingered across the street, unaware of jeongguk's presence watching them from the roof. the others were eating, but jeongguk felt weird with taehyung in the same room. he'd switch places with jimin later for the night, there was no way he'd sleep in the same bed as taehyung.his stomach growls, but he'd hold his hunger until everyone was done eating. somehow, he accidentally slips the camera view his way and his whole face is on display. usually jeongguk would touch up his hair and face, but seeing it now in the natural light, he could definitely use some moisturizer. "geez. . . well, i'm jeon jeongguk and i'm in the zombie apocalypse," he speaks with fake enthusiasm, raising his brows and turning around so his back would face the zombies.
"currently at the pharmacy where jiminie works, we're safe for the most part. we're starting to run low on food, so we're heading to busan's countryside. hopefully it's safe, and things are under control there," he sits down after noticing the zombies looking his way.
"um, this is weird. but hopefully we don't get eaten. i don't have any family left, some survivors told me the outbreak started in seoul, in the waterways. mom was there, so. . . anyways, wow, i'm really talking to a camera," jeongguk laughs quietly, shaking his head in disbelief, "at least miss choi would be pleased with me vlogging. hopefully she made it out of the camps."
footsteps make him close the camera screen abruptly, looking up at the source of noise.
jeongguk freezes.
it's taehyung.
with a bowl of food and apple juice.
"you didn't eat with us, so i brought you some food in case you're hungry," taehyung's hair dances around in the wind, framing his face so beautifully as jeongguk stares in awe.
taehyung sets the bowl and drink down next to jeongguk, avoiding eye contact. jeongguk notices the change in taehyung, "you dyed your hair again."
finally, taehyung looks at him. jeongguk's breath hitches in his throat at the proximity. "yeah, yoongi hyung didn't have any more mint dye, and he said the color was already fading-" taehyung stops talking abruptly, "sorry, you probably don't care, right."
why did that hurt. . .
taehyung is about to stand back up and leave, but jeongguk grabs his wrist and stops him from doing so. the now dark haired male frowns, looking at jeongguk's hand around his wrist.
"i'm sorry. for what i said, i didn't mean it," jeongguk hates this, but he hates having taehyung dismissing his actions even more.
taehyung smiles, shaking his head as he slides his hand out of the raven's grip. "you don't have to lie, it's ok. not everyone has to like me," with a final smile, taehyung stands up and turns around.
jeongguk stands up too and goes after taehyung, grabbing his elbow and turning him around. "i'm really sorry tae, please believe me."
taehyung looks at him square in the eye, looking for any sort of lie. but there's none. it feels like he's looking at the old jeongguk, the one who accepted him and cared for him. "i-i don't know, because you're one person today and tomorrow you might. . . i can't forget what you've done to me jeongguk. i can't," taehyung finally looks at the dead that are circling the building, arms up in the air as others begin piling up to reach them.
jeongguk says something, but taehyung grabs him and pulls him further back into a wall, "be quiet."
"what are you-" jeongguk notices too.
"shit, c'mon," jeongguk takes taehyung's hand and rushes him back downstairs, closing the door to the stairs.
yoongi and jimin are in the basement, the lights to the pharmacy are turned off. taehyung leans back against the counter, waiting for jeongguk to turn around and face him. jeongguk runs a hand through his hair, looking at taehyung. there's a weird pulsing in his chest at the sight of him, jeongguk doesn't know if he likes it or not.
"i know, i know. i'm not asking you to forgive me, i just need you to know that i don't hate you ok?"
no, of course jeongguk doesn't hate taehyung. he never did. the constant battle in his head had blinded him about his feelings. fuck, he's been in love with taehyung since he first met him. but taehyung went against everything he believed in. his sisters death, the days his family would starve, his traumatic childhood of stealing and running from cops, watching his father get knifed down. . .
taehyung grabs his hand, snapping him from his thoughts, "you really mean that? you won't change your mind after?"
jeongguk stares down at their hands, suddenly feeling incredibly small and weak at his touch. "i mean it." more than you think kim.
taehyung smiles, taking his pinky and wrapping it around jeongguk's like in the old times, "promise?"
jeongguk hasn't smiled this much in a while, and suddenly, everything makes sense. he wasn't mad at taehyung, he was mad at himself for wanting to make taehyung something he wasn't.
"promise."
and holy hell, he wants to kiss taehyung. but he doesn't.
a/n their reconciliation gave me headaches and i rewrote this like 4 times bcs i wasn't satisfied. i honestly don't even know if i'm happy w this version, but i think it's the best i'll do. i hope it doesn't feel rushed!
