jeongguk has a heavy feeling inside of his stomach. as drove car rolled out of the walls of the neighborhood, the dead immediately gravitating towards them, he can't bring himself to look back. he's sitting on one of the back seats of the van, another five people filling up the rest of the seats. his plan was to join the group on their scavenger hunt for a while, then when they would near the crossroads, he'd slip past them and make his way to ulsan. seokjin's group had abandoned the idea of leaving, feeling safe in the rich neighborhood. but jeongguk thought otherwise. he wouldn't rely on anything wealthy. ever."where's your companion?" seokjin asks him, sitting back on his seat, twirling his katana on his lap.
"back at the neighborhood," jeongguk replies coolly.
seokjin nods, eyeing the way jeongguk avoids his gaze at the mention of taehyung. if seokjin is good at anything, it's taking care of kids and figuring out kids and wielding his fucking katana. (thank you michonne!) he had noticed the tension between the two since the first day he met them, and it was undeniable something was going on.
"he's a good kid, despite having," he lowers his voice so that only jeongguk can hear, "you know, his silver spoon. you don't find people like that very often. it's important to not let them go. you two are friends no?"
it's important to not let them go. . . jeongguk clenches his jaw and shakes his head. "no. we just know each other from school."
"mm, shame."

it's terrible. there is not a single corner where the dead aren't already coming at you. jeongguk's bat drips with carnage and blood. a girl leads them, signaling with her hand above her head. they're quiet, the only sound is their heavy breathing as their legs move their bodies quickly inside a store. it reminds jeongguk of jimin, he wonders how the boy is doing. or if he's even alive.
once the convenience store is secured, they all let out a breath. "we need weapons, there's enough supplies and foods at the houses," the girl calls out, shutting the windows closed.
jeongguk ventures into the chip area and puts a few bags into his backpack. he rounds the pharmacy and jumps over the counter, carefully skimming the titles of each bottle. he grabs a first aid kit.
"taehyung needs anxiety pills," someone says next to him.
hyunwoo. he hadn't even noticed the buff male had joined the scavenger group until now. "what?" jeongguk frowns at the sound of taehyung's name coming from hyunwoo.
"he mentioned he was running low on his pills," he pulls out a bottle and shows it to jeongguk. the raven doesn't reply, because a radio call interrupts him.
"sooyoung! the gates were opened, we can't close them— the walkers are inside, we can't hold them off... too many... breached... come back!"
"what the hell happened?"
the eerie silence that follows makes jeongguk's stomach sink. the only thing that ran through his head was taehyung.
sooyoung, the girl, looks at them with wide eyes, "someone opened the gates. we have to go back and help."
"screw them. there's hundreds of those creatures, there's four of us. what the hell are we gonna do?" someone sneers.
another replies, "they're our friends, we can at least try to save them."
"maybe they got into the cars. we'll wait for a radio call."
jeongguk stays quiet. he had left taehyung thinking he'd be safe, he had told him that he didn't want him to follow. and now there was a probability that he wouldn't have to worry about the older following him ever again. it's important to not let them go. . . jeongguk looks at seokjin, who's already looking at him.
"we're going back."
for taehyung and duck.
