There was a knock on the door and I hurried to pull down my sleeve.
"Charlie?" Owen asked.
It was early, and I didn't think anyone was awake. Why was he awake? Why had I been so stupid? I slipped my blade under the padding and turned around as Owen opened the door.
"What are you doing?"
"Nothing." I shook my head quickly.
He grabbed my shoe and lifted up the padding.
"Owen no!" I tried to reach around him for the shoe.
He turned around arm raised, and the blade shined in the sun from the opened window. I stopped fighting and stepped back. He sat on my bed, and stared at me and he pulled up his sleeve. What in the hell was he doing? His eyes didn't leave mine as he dug in for the first cut. Then another. And a third.
"Stop!"
"You do it." His voice was dead. "I don't want to hear anything from you."
I watched quietly as he tucked the blade under the pad and got up to hand me the shoe. I quickly took it.
"You should find a new hiding place. I'm surprised they didn't find it yet." He looked at my shoe. "Hiding it in your shoe is Child's play."
He left my room shutting it with too much force. I jumped and dropped my shoe. What was happening to me? Why did I feel the need to cut out of loneliness? I left my room and looked down the hall.
"Owen!"
He turned around and I ran down the hall.
"Help me."
"With what?" He asked.
I opened my mouth but no words came out. He pulled me into a hug. I had tons of people here to talk to. But yet I'd rather be left alone with a blade? If that was my comfort...How was I even going to be better? How could anyone see any good in me. How was I supposed to get better when the only person I really trusted with my life was the one who left me alone.
"You're fine." He whispered to me. "Everything is okay, you'll see."
I looked up and saw Ryder Standing in the hall. He watched us for a few seconds and then headed down the hall. I closed my eyes and let everything that wasn't Owen fade away. And for a little while, it really seemed to help.
"Why don't you come into my room so I can help you clean up okay?"
Nodding softly he put an arm around my shoulder and led me down the hall. I held onto my arm to slow the bleeding. As we passed Ayelie's door I gave her a soft smile and shrugged. Then she slowly clicked her door shut. I looked up at Owen and he smiled at me.
"It's all going to be okay. I promise."
And then He kissed my forehead and led me down the hall towards his room.
