"C'mere kitten." Kid purred from his spot at one of the work desks.
A few of the men on the crew glanced up as he called to you, curious as to what he had going on. You already knew, after all, he had been having you help him with the project for a while now. His new prosthetic was laid across the table with just a few small parts left for it to be considered complete. And much to your delight, the pieces he needed were sitting right by the heavy metal arm.
"All set to finish it?" You asked as you moseyed up to him, giggling as he pulled you closer for a kiss.
Since you'd gotten intimate again with each other, he no longer held back on being affectionate. The icing on the cake was he listened to everything you said and took it all into consideration no matter what the topic was. Even Killer was willing to argue things he used to think were lost causes with Kid. He had you to back him up now and your lover felt he had learned his lesson well enough to listen to his friend better too. You were glad he was able to get something positive out of the whole experience.
"Yeah, just need you to give me a hand." He snickered at his own joke.
You simply smiled and got busy with it, adding the final parts where he directed you to, leaning over your shoulder and poking around the mechanical limb.
It took about an hour to get it put together the rest of the way but the second it was done, Kid snatched it up from the table. His eyes were alight with unbridled excitement as he yelled for Killer. He'd need the extra help getting the new limb set up.
You ended up getting more than the blonde though. As soon as everyone else saw it was done, the entirety of the crew came around to see if it would work properly. Kid would have usually yelled at them to quit wasting time and get back to work, but he'd gone too long without an arm to worry about things like that. Getting the new one attached was the only thing on his mind.
It had you grinning ear to ear as Heat and Wire stood at either side of you to watch Killer help put your partner back together.
"Would you look at that." Wire grunted, armed folded over his chest. "Told ya you were special."
He nudged you and Heat chuckled, completely in agreement with his friend.
"There's nothing special about me following directions to build something guys." You shook your head.
"That may not be, but making him all happy like that? That makes you special."
All three of you watched as Killer outfitted Kid's stump with the parts to keep the artificial arm in place. He'd grimace and wince in pain occasionally as it connected to his body, but through it all, his eyes gleamed and he'd break into small smiles.
"I'm the reason he lost the arm, y'know, just in case you guys forgot that tidbit of information."
"If it was his arm or his life, I'm glad he lost his arm because of you." Heat said. "You're the reason he's here today and we're all grateful to you for it."
"But-"
"Shut up and take the damn compliment." Wire growled.
"Yessir." You laughed.
When Killer finished up with the part that connected flesh to machine, he moved on to grabbing the new arm.
"This is going to hurt." He warned Kid. "The nerves are going to need to connect but the pain shouldn't last too long."
"Just get it done. Can't be as bad as when I lost the damn thing the first time."
Killer nodded and gave it a moment before connecting the two pieces, giving him a chance to prepare for it. Kid let out a hiss, muscles twitching the second it locked into place. You grew excited for him when you saw the metal hand ball into a fist along with his flesh one. It was working.
