You stayed at pop's place until about midnight. The guys decided to stick around with you to spend more time together and you were grateful for it. But you had to go home eventually. Pops went to bed long before the rest of you, he liked getting his rest early so he could wake up early. Sabo was next to call it a night, he had a girlfriend to go see.
Thatch liked his beauty sleep so he retreated to his room after giving you a bone crushing bear hug. When it was just you, Luffy, Ace, and Marco, you decided to head out. Ace had passed out on the couch halfway through a movie and Luffy didn't look like he was far behind.
Marco had given you a dead tired look that told you it was time to go home or head to your old room for the night. And as much as you didn't know what to say to Kid when you saw him again, you wanted to go home. Things could be talked out in the morning when he got back from work and though you doubted things would change, he'd at least understand your worries better.
Either way, you knew pops would help keep him out of any serious danger. It may only be a one time deal but you'd take it. There wasn't a better time to take him up on the offer to ensure Kid's safety.
"I'll see you later Marco." You whispered to the blonde man. Luffy's eyes were fluttering closed and you didn't want to risk waking him.
He gave you a sleepy nod. "Drive safe and keep us updated yoi, we're here to help."
"Will do. I'll call if anything comes up."
He waved as you stepped out of the home and made your way to the truck. He waited until you had got the vehicle started and pulled out of the driveway before closing the front door. He and Thatch were always making sure you'd gotten going alright before going about their business. It was the older brother mentality, they wanted to keep you safe for as long as they had you in sight. It used to annoy you when you were still a teen, now you appreciated how much they cared.
The drive home was calm. Pops had put you at ease and you were ready to face whatever came your way now. When you got back to your place, Killer's truck was gone of course. You assumed Kid's car was in the garage. It was just easier to take one vehicle so that wasn't uncommon.
When you got in, Abel bounced around happily. You were tired and debating going to bed but you didn't want to mess up your sleep schedule. It was a delicate thing and you had gotten used to it not too long ago. So instead you spent some time playing with your pup to burn some of his energy. It was surprising he still had any after playing with Luffy all evening. You took him out back to toss a ball around for him to chase and bring back. He would trot back to you proudly every time and spit it out at your feet to be thrown again.
It took a solid hour to tire him out. When he came back without the ball, panting up a storm, you knew it was time to head back in. Of course it left you feeling more tired yourself as well. You could stay up a bit longer though.
Kid always liked dragging you into the shower right after work. It was the only thing he did religiously, no matter how exhausted he was. If he could do that, you could do the same before bed. Except you'd be taking a bath. The tub wasn't big enough for Kid to ever join you for one and with him still at work, you were able to take one without him trying to worm his way in.
You left the bathroom door open as you hopped into the tub after filling it full of hot water. A content sigh left your lips as the water enveloped you. It'd been far too long since you'd had a decent bath. There was a short, gruff bark from Abel as he sat by you on the floor, staring into the tub and back at you.
"Don't even think about it baby." You warned him. "If Kid can't join me, you can't either."
He stood up and let out more of a whiney growl, throwing his head back at the same time.
