I sat in my office as Emmy brought in paperwork for me. Most of the time, Sylvia handles contracts for me, except for the times I prefer to keep the information quiet.
"Here is the paperwork that you requested, Mr. Powers," Emmy said, handing me a file.
"Thank you, Emmy. Please send George into my office. I have pertinent information I want to discuss with him," I mentioned.
"Yes, sir," Emmy said, leaving my office and closing the door. I looked over the paperwork, making sure everything was in order.
I heard a knock on my office door. "Come in, George," I announced, sifting through paperwork.
"I have the paperwork for your signature," George said, handing me a file.
I set it on my desk and looked through the folder.
"What did investors say when you explained my offer?" I questioned.
"The investors were more than pleased to accept your offer. It seems Richard Hawthorne mismanaged funds picked up failing businesses, making the investors think he's an asset," George explained.
I looked up from the paperwork at George. "Hawthorne buys junk investments and sells them at the lowest bidder?" I questioned.
"It seems that way. Hawthorne persuades other investors to sell the stock before the announcement made of the sale. Then he turns around and informs his investors that the stocks are a hot commodity, making stocks skyrocketed. The head of exchanges is looking to nail him for insider trading," George told me.
I leaned back in my office chair and looked at George. "I want the sale kept quiet; then I want the employee's files. We will relocate some employees and dismiss others. Put a call into Roger at the exchanges," I said.
George nodded, then stood before leaving my office. I detested men like Richard Hawthorne. These men bought junk investments to stay hidden and under the radar.
"Mr. Powers, your ten o'clock is in the conference room," Emmy announced on my intercom.
"Thank you, Emmy," I replied.
I picked up the file and left my office. I walked down the hall, making my way to the conference room. I walked into the room to see Valeria sitting at the conference table. I sat down in a seat and set the folder on the table.
I opened the folder and pulled out the contract. I placed it in front of Valeria.
"This contract lays out the terms of your employment. While I employ you, I expect you to conduct yourself properly. You will address me as Mr. Powers. Your clothing and hairstyle will conform to company standards. You will receive no favoritism or nepotism stated in your contract. All work will remain confidential, including contracts, sales, meetings, and conversations," I explained.
Valeria looked at me with confusion as I explained the contract to her. I didn't want a misunderstanding between us. While I told the terms of employment, her phone kept buzzing.
"Miss Powers, I expect your phone off. I detest interruptions. Do I make myself clear?" I questioned with a curt tone.
"Yes, sir," Valeria whispered.
"Please read through the contract and signed on all signature lines," I ordered.
My daughter wants to be like me; then she will deal with me as a businessman.
*******
ValeriaI read through the contract, noticing Dad seemed annoyed with me. It didn't help that my doctor kept calling me. My phone vibrated, and Dad looked at me with irritation.
