Valeria
I stood in my bedroom as Richard glared at me.
"Do you know your father bought my companies and ousted me?" Richard insinuated.
"What?" I asked, confused.
Richard crept toward me. "Your bastard of a father ruined me, but that doesn't surprise me since he has a whore for a daughter," Richard spat, shocking me.
"Excuse me?" I questioned.
"Did you think I would leave my wife for someone as worthless as you? You spread your legs so easy for a man. You were just a plaything for me," Richard scoffed.
I felt my anger grow with intensity and slapped Richard across the face. He looked at me and smirked as he rubbed his face.
"No one will ever love you, not even Daddy," Richard remarked.
"Get out!" I demanded, crossing my arms.
Richard left and stormed past Cameron. I stood there and regained my composure. I took a deep breath and walked out of the bedroom. Cameron leaned on the counter with his palms.
"I guess you found my Achilles heel," I said, trying not to break.
Cameron looked at me, curiously.
"Since I dragged you into my mess, I should be honest with you," I said, walking towards Cameron.
Cameron looked at me quietly.
"The doctor diagnosed me with breast cancer," I announced, shocking Cameron. "I will stay at the beach house after the surgery and then begin chemotherapy," I added.
Cameron looked at me, speechless.
"Go ahead and make snarky comments. I deserve it. I treated you poorly growing up. Now, you can return the favor," I said, awaiting Cameron's remarks.
"Why would I make jokes about this?" Cameron questioned.
"Because I deserve it. I was terrible to my family, friends, and people. I slept with a married man. I threw my mother's past in her face. Now, I'm getting punished," I said, smiling. If I didn't laugh, I would cry.
Cameron furrowed his brows.
"I will need you to drive me to the surgery, then stay with me while I recuperate. I will need to attend my treatments. When I finished, I will release you from your duty. I know that you detest working as my bodyguard," I reasoned.
Cameron said nothing.
"We will leave tomorrow and settle in at the beach house. The doctor scheduled my surgery for eight am on Thursday," I informed Cameron, who nodded.
I turned and went into my bedroom, closing the door behind me. I waited until Cameron left to cry. I didn't want pity, but I didn't want to die either.
*******
CameronI left Valeria's place, stunned. I didn't expect that news. I got into my car and sat there. Yeah, Valeria could be a pain in the ass at times, but no one deserves to be sick.
I left Valeria's place and went to see my dad. Mom greeted me when I came into the house. I hugged her, and we went into the kitchen. Dad was sitting at the table, working on the laptop. I sat down near him.
"Did Valeria get home?" Dad asked, typing.
"Yeah, she received company," I mentioned.
Dad looked up from the computer screen at me.
"Nothing happened. The person left," I said.
"Good, because I would hate if Vincent hurt you," Dad told me, chuckling.
I sat there, thinking about what Valeria told me.
"Can I ask you a question?" I asked.
"Sure," Dad answered.
"If you learned something vital about someone, would you tell someone?" I questioned.
"It depends on the pertinent information. I learned with Vincent that he kept personal matters private. He felt it was essential that fewer people knew. Why?" Dad asked me.
"No reason," I answered.
Dad looked at me, curiously, but I couldn't tell him about Valeria. He would tell Vincent. It wasn't my place. We talked some more; then I went home. I didn't know what would happen with Valeria, but I did see that she didn't need to be alone now. Someone needed to be with her.
*******
ValeriaI packed two bags and carried them to the door. I set them down, then showered. I turned off the water and dried off. I walked over to the mirror and released my towel.
I stood in front of the mirror, looking at my breasts. On Thursday, I was having a double mastectomy. The doctor found a lump in each breast. She biopsied it and found the bumps malignant. It was my fault. I noticed the lump the night that Joe came and got me.
I went to the bathroom and felt something hard in my breast, making it tender. I thought if I came up with every reason why I should hate my parents, it would make things better. If I die, then it would matter.
My doctor kept calling me to see her, but I ignored the calls. At graduation, I figured no one would care if I died. I ran my fingers over my breasts, feeling the lumps. Richard was right. No one will love me, especially after my surgery. Cameron despises me, which is so fitting that he's staying with me.
I started crying as I stood there, nude. I didn't want to die without apologizing to Lexie and Landon. One day, I hope they remember me, and my parents forgive me.
That concludes The Business Man's Son. Landon's journey ended, but Valeria's journey is starting. You didn't think I would end the series this way, did you?
You would have little faith in me if you thought that. The final book of the businessman's series is called The Business Man's Family. You will see Valeria's journey and how it unfolds. That book will be out sometime this year.
Now, here's a double whammy. There will be an offshoot book about a child mentioned in this book. It seems Rafe had a child and you will find out what happened to that child. I will reveal that title at the end of Valeria's book.
See you in the next book.
