Landon
The situation with Valeria bothered me. Lexie was a romantic at heart, but Valeria was unreadable. When we were kids, she was the voice of reason, but now it was cold and distant.
I followed my dad's footsteps and called in a favor. I know I would catch hell later, but I needed answers. I came out of class and saw Cruz waiting for me. I walked over to him.
"Do you know how cold it is now?" Cruz asked, trying to keep warm.
"It's not that cold. Plus, our weather has no concept," I reasoned.
"It's November, Landon. Once Halloween passes, kiss the warm weather goodbye," Cruz reminded me. "Let's go get coffee. I swear between your dad and you, I think you're trying to give me hypothermia."
"Stop acting like a baby," I told Cruz.
"Listen, mini-Vincent. I take orders from your mom," Cruz informed me.
"Mom? Don't you work for Dad?" I questioned.
"Well, your mother rules your dad, so she trumps your dad," Cruz reasoned.
Cruz had a point. Mom kept Dad in line, so I can't argue with his logic. I got into the car, and we drove to a coffeehouse. We found a table and sat down. Cruz ordered two coffees, then handed me a file. I opened the folder and started reading.
"It took some time, but I located information on Richard Hawthorne. Valeria is interning at his business while attending classes," Cruz informed me.
"Why would Valeria intern with someone other than Dad?" I questioned.
"Not a clue. Richard Hawthorne is low-level when it comes to business. He sticks with small companies, flying under the radar so that the IRS doesn't question his business tactics. I know Richard bid on a company that your dad was acquiring," Cruz explained.
"It says here that Richard married with kids. Does his wife know what he does in his spare time?" I asked.
"I don't think his wife cares," Cruz told me, sipping his coffee.
I sighed. Valeria involved herself with a married man, which never works. What was my sister doing?
"When Valeria starts working with your Dad, I assigned Cameron as her bodyguard," Cruz mentioned.
I looked at Cruz with surprise.
"Your dad was against it, and so was Cameron, but I felt this was a better arrangement. Your mom agreed," Cruz explained.
"Mom does know best," I reasoned.
Cruz gave me a knowing look. All I could do is hope that Cameron would straighten my sister out. I had a feeling; something else would make it happen.
We finished our coffee, and Cruz took me home. I didn't want my parents to worry about Valeria, but I needed insight. Who better than someone with experience? I went to Mom.

Lacey"Will you stay out of the sauce?" I asked Vincent, pushing him away from the pot on the stove.
"I needed a taste," Vincent claimed.
"No, you need to let it cook, you impatient man," I retorted.
"I adorn your sauce is so many ways," Vincent said, smirking.
I rolled my eyes. My husband is a horny bastard. His sexual appetite never changed, except when he was sick.
"The doctor called," I mentioned.
Vincent looked at me, his expression changing.
"Your results came back clean. The doctor said he would see you in a year," I replied, smiling.
