Landon

I was reading in the library with Laticia when someone came to get me. The person said I had a visitor. I didn't know who it was because it wasn't visiting hours.

I got up and followed the person outside to the garden area to see my dad sitting on a bench alone. The person left, and I walked over to my dad. He stood up and looked at me.

"I didn't know you were coming," I mentioned.

"I told no one that I was coming to visit you. I wanted to talk to you alone," Dad mentioned, which worried me. "Let's take a walk," Dad suggested.

I nodded, and we walked around on the grounds.

"I know I haven't been the best father. I didn't want to make the same mistakes that my father made with me. In the end, I pushed you away," Dad said.

"Dad," I replied.

"No, hear me out, Landon," Dad told me.

I sighed.

"I grew up in a home with money, but no love except for my sister. My parents were horrible people. I never wanted that for my kids. I thought if I held on tight, I would be a better father. It doesn't work. Smothering your children is even worse. You push them away because they resent you. I never want you or your sisters to hate me," Dad said, stopping.

I looked at Dad. "I don't hate you. I don't always agree with you, but I will never hate you," I admitted.

My dad looked at me with concern. I knew what he wanted.

"I love you too much to hate you," I added.

Dad looked at me with surprise.

"Yes, you and Mom raised us the way you thought we needed, but you also raised us with love. Even with work, you made time to have dinner with us. You took us on family trips. We had birthday parties, movie nights, and bedtime stories. We grew up with our parents. Most kids don't have that," I explained.

Dad furrowed his brows.

"You gave us quality and quantity time. The almighty Vincent Powers gave us a dad," I said, smiling.

"I did do that, didn't I?" Dad asked chuckling.

I chuckled.

"Landon, I never want you to feel like you can't come to me. All I want is for you and your sisters to be happy," Dad reasoned.

"Who says that we aren't happy? Yeah, we end up in undesirable situations, but that's our choice. I became a dancer on my merit. I fell into a trap with drugs. It took two people to help me break free," I mentioned.

"Asher and Quinn," Dad said.

I nodded. "I had a chance to figure out things about myself. I didn't know how to read," I confessed, surprising Dad. "I didn't understand the material, so I paid people to write my reports and give me answers to tests."

"Landon," Dad said.

"I know that I cheated myself. It was difficult to discuss it with anyone. I felt ashamed, and I know that I disappointed you," I reasoned.

Dad looked down and kicked the ground with his foot. Then he looked at me. "You didn't disappoint me, but I wish you would have come to me," he said.

"It's difficult when your dad tells you to pick up a book," I mentioned.

"Because I didn't want you to fall into the trap where technology controlled you. I wanted you to expand your mind and discover possibilities," Dad explained.
