Landon

My ninety-days came, and I celebrated with a meeting. I wanted my chip for ninety-days. I learned a lot in rehab about myself. I found out why I turned to drugs and who I was as a person.

Drugs are an escape from reality. It's easier to concede to a lousy romance than it is to admit guilt. I blamed others for my actions when I allowed myself to use drugs. I could have said no, but I didn't.

I packed my bag and left the rehab center to see Dad waiting for me. I walked over and hugged him.

"You look good," Dad mentioned.

"I feel good. I got my ninety-day sobriety chip," I replied.

"I'm proud of you, Landon. I know it's been a difficult journey, but accomplished it," Dad said.

"I made a promise to someone," I mentioned, referring to Quinn

Dad gave me a look, and I grinned.

"Let's get you situated, then we can discuss your plans," Dad replied.

I nodded and walked to the car. Cruz got out of the car and took my bag. He hugged me, then put my bag into the back. Dad and I got into the backseat. We were returning to the house until I could back on my feet.

Cruz drove home. We pulled into the driveway and got out of the car. Mom came out of the house to greet us. I hugged her tightly. Then I felt something crash into my leg, making me lose my balance a little.

I looked down to see Kacey hugging my leg.

"Unkie Landy, you're home," Kacey announced.

"Hey, short stuff," I said.

Kacey let go of my leg and put her fists on her hips. She stomped her feet. "I not short," she huffed.

We chuckled.

"Come on, mi hija," Santino said, picking up Kacey.

"But Papá, Unkie Landy say I short. I not short," Kacey said, holding out her hands.

"No, you're getting big. I want to keep you little," Santino replied in an accent.

"I big girl," Kacey claimed.

Santino chuckled.

"Kacey, why don't we get ice cream?" Dad asked.

"Okay," Kacey answered, wiggling out of Santino's arms. He put her down and grabbed Dad's hand. "Come, Abuelo," she demanded.

"I'm coming. You're so demanding," Dad teased.

I shook my head and chuckled. Lexie walked over and hugged me.

"You look well," Lexie commented.

"I feel better. It's been a long road," I mentioned.

"Yes, but you came out better," Lexie told me.

"Have you heard from Valeria?" I questioned.

Lexie shook her head. That worried me.

"Landon, don't allow this to make you have a setback. You came too far," Lexie reminded me.

"I know, but I worry about Valeria," I said, furrowing my brows.

"I know," Lexie said.

"Why don't we go inside and have lunch?" Mom suggested.

I nodded, carrying my bag into the house. I went upstairs and set my bag down on the bed. I looked around the room. It felt different now. I walked over to my desk and saw a book on it. I picked it up and saw the title - To Kill A Mockingbird. That made me smile.
