Prologue . . .
Kylie's POV (Age 16)
I let out a laugh as Dean pulled into a field. Jumping out of the car I glanced down at my bandaged chest.
We had just hunted down a monster, one with very big claws and I was made bait. Dean protested of course always wanting to protect me, but whatever John said Dean did.
I didn't blame him though, John was our leader, he guided us and helped us get where we are today.
"You know you about gave me a heart attack back there." Dean said as I went around the front of the car, leaning against the hood.
"We needed the job done." I shrugged. "Your dad thought it was a good idea, and he was right." I nodded, pulling my jacket around me tighter against the chill of the air.
"Yeah, well my dad doesn't always do what's right." I heard Dean mumble as he shut the back of the Impala, coming around with a cooler.
"How did you even get your dad to let you take the car?" I teased as he leaned next to me.
He gave a shrug. "Said I was going out on a supply run." He nodded, pulling out two beers and handing one to me.
I glanced down at the bottle, biting my lip.
Alcohol did bad things to people, I saw it first hand, I just didn't want to fall down that hole.
Dean let out a sigh. "I know you don't want to drink, but you earned that one."
I glanced up into his green eyes before twisting off the top and sipping it slowly, grimacing at the taste.
Dean let out a laugh and shook his head. "You'll get use to it." He said before doing the same to his bottle.
"So if you told your dad we were going out for a supply run," I asked softly, "why are we out here?"
Dean looked out at the sky in front of us and let out a soft sigh. "I figured we deserved it. You went out and you got your first official injury." He nodded at the bandage around my chest.
I bit my lip and nodded. "Wasn't too bad, I've had worse."
"Oh yeah? Where?" He raised a brow.
I paused before shrugging my shoulders and playing it of, not wanting to talk about my past just yet. "Why didn't we bring Sam?" I asked trying to change the subject.
"I've taken Sammy a lot of places, you never get attention." His smile turned into a playful smirk. "You not enjoying your time with me, kid?" He teased.
I felt the heat rush to my cheeks, but played it off with a laugh. "Sam is more interesting." I taunted.
His eyes grew big as he turned to me. "Take it back." He said warningly, but with a smile.
"Never." I chuckled.
Before I knew it Dean's fingers were tickling my sides, my beer sloshing all over him and I as I jumped and began giggling.
"Dean stop!" I laughed, the beer falling from my fingers as I got up from the car, running away from him.
I turned to look where he was and saw that he had not moved an inch from the car, only smiling at me with amusement and something else I couldn't put my finger on.
"What?" I asked and put my hand on my hip.
"Nothing." He shook his head but continued to smile. "I'm just real proud to have you part of my family."
I felt my chest grow heavy with pride.
I wasn't biologically a Winchester, but there wasn't one day that the men made me feel like anything less.
I slowly walked over to Dean, putting my hand on his cheek with a small smile. "There's no other family I'd rather be apart of."
"I don't know about that." Dean said sadly. "You're missing out on so much."
"Dean, I'm kicking ass, saving people, hunting monsters." I chuckled. "I'm saving lives, and that's all that matters."
"Yeah and what about what you're missing out on?" He raised a brow.
I pulled my hand away and crossed my arms. "Like what?"
"Prom?"
I scoffed. "Prom? Really?" I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, I know how it's important to you."
I shrugged my shoulders, trying to play it off like I didn't care about the normal things I was missing out on.
"So I don't get to wear a fancy dress," I chuckled, "I'll live."
He let out a breath and brought the bottle to his lips. "You deserve better."
"So do you." I smiled and nudged him.
"Yeah right." Dean chuckled. "You and I both know that's a lie, that there's only one place I deserve to go."
"And I will follow you all the way there. Hell or high water."

The sound of helicopter propellers filled my ears as the wind blew my bloody curls in my face, my swollen eye forcing it's way open as I looked up at the morning sky.
"Sam?" I called around my oxygen mask weakly. "Dean?"
"Ma'am, it's okay we're going to get you some help." A paramedic spoke, his voice distant and hollowed.
"Are they alive?" I asked before gasping, my vision getting darker and darker.
"BP is 180 over 60, heartrate 95."
I followed the voice looking to my left where Sam struggled in his stretcher.
"Sammy?" I breathed out.
"Kylie! Kylie!"
I moved my hand trying to reach out to him, but it was firmly strapped to my side.
I glanced up at the paramedic that was looking down at me with concern.
"I don't feel-" I felt my eyes roll into the back of my head, breathing became difficult.
"She's crashing! Pulse rate dropping!"
"Kylie!"
