Folsom Prison Blues (4)

Dean's POV

Picking at the wired cage I was locked up in, I glanced over at the curtain that kept me blocked from Tiny. I was able to make out his large shadow. He was sitting on a cot, his shoulders rolled forward in defeat.

"Hey, Tiny." I called over, pushing at the bruise around my eye.

"Yeah?" He called softly.

"Hey," I let out, guilt eating away at me, "sorry about the things I was saying earlier. I can't really tell you why, but I had to get you angry. So, uh . . . Anyway sorry."

"It's okay." Tiny let out gently, surprising me. "Truth is, I have low self-esteem issues. My old man treated me and my brother like crap, right up till the day he died." He admitted.

I felt my heart soften. "How'd he die?"

"My brother shot him."

I made a face, my heart suddenly not as soft. "Okay." I shook my head turning my attention to the clock that suddenly stopped at 8:45.

"Oh, crap." I let out seeing a ghost of a woman standing on the other side of the fenced off area of the infirmary. She was staring in my direction, her one eye a dark brown while the other a grey hue as if she were blind.

"What is it?"

I ignored Tiny and got off my cot, panic over-riding the ache in my body. I looked around for something to fight her off with. What could I used when I was a caged rat?

I reached for the salt shaker that sat on my lunch tray just as the ghost lurched forward, flinging me back against the wall. I fell to the floor with a loud groan.

"What is it?" Tiny yelled, sounding panicked.

The ghost stood over me, her hand going to my chest.

Sharp pains were sent to my chest, almost like I was having a heart attack. I used what little strength I had to fling the salt at her.

She disappeared in a puff of smoke.

I took the time to lean back, clutching at my heart letting out groans of pain.

"Oh! No! No!" Tiny screamed.

I pushed back the rest I needed and got to my feet. "Tiny!"

Through the curtain I watched as the silhouette of Tiny struggled against an invisible force before he slid down the fenced wall of his cell.

"TINY!" I kicked at my cell door trying to make enough noise to get attention. "Guard! Guard!"

The guards came running in, seeing the state of Tiny before rushing me out to the Rec Yard, where I was able to tell Sam what went down.

"Wait. So you're telling me it wasn't Moody?" Sam raised a brow.

"Not unless he liked going around dressed like a nurse." I grabbed at my chest tiredly. "Poor Tiny, man. Poor giant Tiny."

"Wait, so this is - this is, like the ghost of some nurse who worked here or something?" Sam pressed.

"I don't know, man. I guess." I shook my head, tired and agitated.

Sam let out a huff. "You know what, Dean, at this point 'I don't know' isn't working for me. See, uh, I thought we were done." He let out angrily. "I called Deacon. It's happening. We're getting out tonight."

I let out a sigh. "I guess we got to do some quick research, then." I shrugged.

"How? I mean, maybe you haven't notice but Kylie hasn't picked up her phone and we're in jail."
