The Usual Suspects (4)

Kylie's POV

2911 Ashland Street was creepy at night with nothing but a dark warehouse standing. I was worried about going in with Detective Ballard, worried that she might slow us down or get hurt in the process but she insisted on coming. Plus, if she saw what was really out there then maybe she could get Dean to walk free.

"So what exactly are we looking for?" She asked as we walked in.

"We'll let you know when we find it." Sam breathed out.

With a quick discussion, we found that it was best to split up.

Sam went up the a flight of stairs, checking out the upper lever while Ballard and I continued on the lower floor.

"So this is what you do, huh?" She asked as I walked a head of her, not really paying attention.

I let out a sigh. "This is what we do." I admitted. "I know it seems crazy, and you're probably wondering what the hell you're doing here, but everything you see and hear tonight is real." I explained as I continued walking forward not noticing that she was not behind me anymore. "Ballard?" I called.

"Kylie?" I heard her cry. "Kylie! Sam!" She yelled more fearful than the last.

I turned on my heel and quickly retraced my steps to find a shaking Ballard who looked as if she saw a ghost.

Sam got there around the time I did and grabbed her shoulders. "Hey! Hey, we're here, what is it? What happened?" He questioned as I looked around her with my flashlight.

"Claire . . ." She trailed, her voice shaking and her eyes wide.

"Where?" I asked continuing to search the area but finding nothing.

"She-she was here." She continued to stare wide eyed.

"Did she attack you?" Sam asked concerned but Ballard was shaking her head.

"No. No, she was just like . . . reaching out to me. She was over there by the window." She pointed to a dirtied window that was being blocked by a shelving unit. She took a couple of steps towards it, attempting to move it on her own. "Here, help me move this."

"All right." Sam nodded as the both of us moved to help her move the shelves aside.

I stepped back once the window was revealed. "Holy crap." I let out with a smile.

Ashland Sup

The one word that we were looking for was being broadcasted to us at it was labeled from the outside.

"Our little mystery word." Ballard hummed as she looked at us.

I turned, a shadow catching my eye on the opposite wall, casting the words into a clear reflection.

"Now the extra letters make sense." I let out with a nod.

Sam and I both pulled out are EMF meters approaching the opposite wall.

"What is that?" Ballard asked completely confused as she watched our every movement, probably worried that we were still crazy.

I didn't blame here.

"Spirits and certain remains give off electromagnetic frequencies." Sam explained as we went over ever inch of the wall.

"So, if Claire's body was here, that would indicate that?" She asked.

"Yeah. Well, that's the theory." Sam shrugged.

I turned to look over my shoulder at her. "You feel like running yet?" I teased just as my EMF meter purred. "Sam." I called before turning, looking around for something to break the wall.
