No Exit (2)

Kylie's POV

I watched as Dean paced back and forth nervously while Jo sat in front of the blue prints she had laid out.

I turned my head to Jo as she gracefully flipped the knife around in her hand as if she didn't have a care in the world.

"This place was built in 1924. It was originally a warehouse, converted into apartments a few months ago." Jo explained as she watched Dean.

"Yeah? What was here before 1924?" Dean asked, rubbing his hand across his jaw.

I didn't know if he was acting so nervously because Jo was here or because I threatened to cut off something very valuable only a few moments ago.

"Nothing." Jo answered. "Empty field."

"So," I said, crossing my legs, "most likely scenario, someone died bloody in the building, and now he's back and raising hell." I shrugged.

It seemed like an easy case, although I wish that it would be tougher for Jo, to prove that this life is no way to live.

"I already checked. In the past eighty two years, zero violent deaths." She sighed. "Unless you count a janitor who slipped on a wet floor." I watched as her hand shook, her once graceful movements halted as she looked up at Dean. "Would you sit down, please?" She seemed to snap nervously.

Dean looked at her before sitting down next to me, placing a hand firmly on my knee. "So, have you checked police reports, county death records-"

"Obituaries, mortuary reports and seven other sources." She nodded. "I know what I'm doing."

"I think the jury's still out on that one." I scoffed. "Could you put the knife down?"

Jo glared at me, but relentlessly put the knife on the table. I quickly reached over and snatched it before twirling it between my own fingers, more skillfully than Jo. She watched my movements, her eyes widening slightly with excitement as I did different small flicks with my fingers.

"Okay!" Sam clapped his hands together, a slight grin on his face. "So, uh, it's something else. Maybe some kind of cursed object that brought a spirit with it."

"Well, we've got to scan the whole building. Everywhere we can get to, right?" She said with enthusiasm as she immediately got to her feet.

"Right." I nodded before sliding her knife back to her. "So, you and me, we'll take the top two floors." I suggested, as Dean's hand tightened slightly on my knee.

"We'd move faster if we split up." Jo rolled her eyes.

I let out a slight chuckle and shook my head. "Oh, this isn't negotiable."

Jo let out a sigh before nodding. "I need to grab my stuff." She said and immediately turn on her heel, red in the face, going to the other room to grab her things.

"You sure you can be alone with her?" Dean smirked.

I rolled my eyes. "It's either alone with me or alone with you." I pushed myself to my feet. "I think I can handle her a little better."

Dean let out a laugh. "Sure."

"What?" I rolled my eyes.

"You and the female population don't exactly mix well together." He tried to hide his smirk.

"Yeah? Well you and the female population mix a little too well." I shrugged, crossing my arms.

Dean made a face before standing up to look down on me. "Wait, wait, wait. Are you going 'mother' mode on Jo because you want to teach her a life lesson, or because you don't trust me."
