Croatoan (2)
Kylie's POV
Dean parked the Impala outside the small cabin-like house before we made our way to the door, my eyes instantly connecting with a tacky plaque that read: Born To Fish, Forced To Work
Sam reached forward, knowing on the door before a teenaged boy with dark spiked hair opened it. His reaction full of surprise.
"Yeah?" He answered.
Dean pulled out his badge, flashing it quickly at the unsuspecting boy. "We're looking for Duane Tanner. He lives here, right?"
"Yeah, he's my brother." He nodded, a look of confusion on his face.
"Can we talk to him?" Dean pressed.
I had a bad feeling in my gut about the boy in front of me. He wasn't normal, something was too off about him.
"Oh, he's not here right now." He shrugged simply, agitated with our presence.
"Do you know where he is?" I asked, cocking a brow.
"Yeah, he went on a fishing trip up by Roslyn Lake." He played off, his cold eyes meeting mine.
"Your parents home?" I asked.
"Yeah, they're inside." He nodded, looking behind him and away from me.
"Jake? Who is it?" I heard from inside just as an older looking gentlemen appeared trying to look normal, but you could tell there was just something off.
"Hi, U.S. Marshals sir, we're looking for your son Duane." Dean spoke in a nonchalant tone.
"Wh-why? He's not in trouble, is he?" Mr. Tanner ask, his voice quavering.
"No, no, no, no." Dean shook his head with a forced smile. "We just need to ask him a couple of routine questions, that's all."
"When's he due back from his trip?" Sam asked, his eyes roaming the man.
"I'm not sure." Mr. Tanner shook his head.
"Well, maybe your wife knows?" Sam offered with a small shrug.
"No, I don't know, she's not here right now." Mr. Tanner answered unconvincingly.
I felt my eyebrows pull together in confusion. "Your son said she was."
Jake, finally making his way to the conversation, raised a brow. "Did I?"
"She's getting groceries." His father covered for him, unconvincingly. "So, when Duane gets back, there's a number where he can get a hold of you?" He asked, changing the subject.
Dean stared at the man, studying him, before shaking his head. "Oh no, we'll just check in with you later." He waved off.
We turned heading down the stairs just as I listened to the door shut promptly behind us.
"That was kind of creepy, right?" Dean spoke once we were far enough away. "A little too Stepford?"
"Big time." Sam let out bleakly.
I shoved my hands in my pockets as we made it to the bottom of the steps. "Let's see what the perfect family is hiding." I smirked as we made our way around the back.
Sam knelt down to pick the lock on the door, but as soon as we heard a cry from inside the house we decided it was quicker to kick it down.
Dean slammed his foot into the door letting it fly open as we barged in, guns raised.
Mr. Tanner and Jake stood around there mother who was tied to a chair, crying and shaking. Her arm had a long cut from her shoulder to halfway down her arm.
