"excuse me, but did i really hear it right? you wanna collaborate with me?" i widened my eyes, as i sat across him.
earlier, my manager told me that someone wanted to talk with me, so here i am in a coffee shop. i would be lying if i said i wasn't so curious about what he wanted to talk about. he was giving me a bunny smile, his eyes as if twinkling.
"ne," he replied, nodding. i blinked rapidly.
i know it might seem rude or something, but i really wanted to ask him why he chose me. it's not like i was the best vocalist out there, i was a main dancer, for goodness' sake. why is someone as good of a vocalist as him wanting to collaborate with me?
"why me? i mean, i'd really love to! but why me?" i replied, making him chuckle before giving his reply.
"to put it simply, it's because i like your voice. besides, it's only going to be one song. it will be a surprise. we won't tell anyone, we'll release it a day after finishing the recording and arranging," he said, making me smile.
the idea was actually good. i could almost imagine the people freaking out after seeing something being released without being warned about it, especially since it involved someone like him.
"jungkook-sunbaenim, i'd love to!" i said, making him clap his hands slightly with a smile across his face.
"um, actually the song's not yet written. i was wondering if you wanted to write it with me... i heard you can compose songs, too," jungkook said shyly, so i nodded with a smile across my lips.
"although, i'm preparing for a comeback. but i'm already wrapping it up, so i can do it. when are you available?" his eyes lit up when i replied.
"any time you are!" he replied, his eyes smiling along with his wide grin.
i smiled back, thinking that this was probably gonna be great. just the mood he was giving me right now made me think that working with him was actually going to work out well. i mean, he's really smiley right now and all, i'd actually love to work with someone like him. besides, he's the jeon jungkook.
leaning back on his seat, he nervously looked around. we weren't finished with our food, both having iced americanos and a glazed doughnut. we haven't even touched any of it yet, so we really had to do something before the air gets too heavy and awkward. after all, we haven't hung out yet before. if that little fight over the banana milk was counted as one, then it was one time.
"um, can we, like... talk?" he said, making me chuckle and nod.
"what did you wanna talk about, sunbae?" i replied, but he smiled at me first before speaking.
"you can just call me informally. jungkook's fine," he said, making me blink rapidly.
i wasn't one to be fangirling over the littlest things, but being this casual with jungkook just made me feel a bit taken aback and honoured. he was so kind and it feels like he actually wanted to be friends of some sort.
"o-okay, sun- i mean... jungkook," i said, making him chuckle before nodding.
"you were friends with eunwoo?" he asked, making me freeze on my spot.
just when i was about to get comfortable, here goes eunwoo's name popping into the conversation. i might seem a bit bitter (or a lot) about him, but what can i do? i trusted him a lot and wanted him to be the one cheering me one with every decision i make, but he turned out to oppose it when i decided something big and changing for myself.
i uncomfortably shifted on my seat, nodding at jungkook as i regained eye contact with him. i suddenly started to wonder, they were friends. the 97 liners. did eunwoo talk about me?
"he used to talk about you a lot, you know?" he whispered, making me sigh and shrug.
"we just... kinda got into a fight. that's all," i replied, and he gave me a smile.
"yeah, i remember that day. he told us how he felt so sorry about the words he said," jungkook muttered, which made me grip the hem of my shirt.
he did?
i was about to give a reply when my phone started ringing, so i immediately excused myself to answer it.
"hello?" i called, answering the call.
"hey, um, it's taeyong. i heard you weren't in the building, i was kinda hoping we could hang out," taeyong said, almost stuttering from the other end of the call.
i smiled, looking down before suddenly realizing that i was with jungkook. i widened my eyes, almost stopping myself from agreeing to meet. technically speaking, i was doing work.
"i'm sorry, i actually can't right now. i'm meeting someone, work purposes," i replied, apologetically.
"oh, that's fine. just call or text me once you get back home safely. tale care, don't push yourself too hard, okay? bye," he said, making me smile.
he was so caring. always was, and still is.
"yeah, you, too. bye," the call ended when i finished my reply, so i slid my phone back in my pockey and started walking back towards the table jungkook and i were in.
once back, he gave me a smile so i returned it. it seemed like he started eating, probably a bit hungry since he almost already finished his doughnut and his drink.
"i'm sorry, that was taeyong," i said, sitting back down.
"taeyong? nct? oh, it's okay. i heard you two were really great friends." he replied, so i smiled and nodded.
i bit down on my doughnut, shaking my head internally at the thought of taeyong and i.
great friends?
we weren't really less, but we weren't more either.
